TANYA TAGAQ'S MIND-BLOWING MANIFESTO, RETRIBUTION, IS ON THIS YEAR'S POLARIS PRIZE SHORT LIST.
“Last fall, Tanya Tagaq’s voice rose defiantly, singularly, to unleash and demand Retribution, an album and a damnation aimed at rape — of women, of land, of Indigenous rights. Arguably the fiercest album to come out of 2016, it was passed over for a Juno nomination earlier this year (a more jarring omission after Tagaq’s incredible opening performance on the 2017 Junos broadcast alongside A Tribe Called Red). A second Polaris short-list nomination might make up for that.” – CBC Music
SAM OUTLAW DEBUTS HONKY TONK LOVE SONG "ALL MY LIFE" VIA WIDE OPEN COUNTRY.
Outlaw says “All My Life” is one of his favorite songs to play live. “I don’t have a lot of “happy” songs but this is certainly a feel-good tune and it’s all kinds of fun to play live. It’s an upbeat singalong with a nice instrumental section so the lead players can strut their stuff. In this case, it’s Stephen Musselman from Los Angeles on the Telecaster and Mark Sloan (based in Nashville) on the pedal steel.
“PANTHER IN THE DOLLHOUSE IS ONE OF THE BEST ALBUMS OF THE SUMMER, IF NOT THE YEAR.” - EXCLAIM!
The political is personal on Whitehorse’s new album, Panther In The Dollhouse, out today on Six Shooter Records. The new songs showcase high-drama, flesh-forward storytelling that sees characters make good (and bad) on their desires and impulses. Conventional romantic love – and the uptight normativity that often accompanies it – is cast aside for a more nuanced, progressive take on self-determinism, sexuality and social expectations.
