THE DEEP DARK WOODS RETURN WITH A NEW SONG, “DRIFTING ON A SUMMER’S NIGHT,” A SCUZZED-UP COUNTRY BLUES LAMENT.
The Deep Dark Woods go ripping down the highway with a spooky new song, “Drifting On A Summer’s Night,” about unraveling the true love knot.
Frontman Ryan Boldt’s forlorn storytelling and mix of traditional British folk and country blues draws lines from Ireland to Tennessee, the Oxford Girl to Folsom Prison. Boldt is a skilful murder balladeer with an equally morbid romanticism, and this new song hints at a direction away from the swirling jams on previous releases towards a darker, stranger tenor. The song will be on a new album coming this fall, the first release since 2013’s Jubilee.
“Drifting On A Summer’s Night” features folk duo Kacy & Clayton (harmonies and guitars), Shuyler Jansen (bass) and Mike Silverman (drums).
Along with the tour dates announced today, The Deep Dark Woods are confirmed to perform at AmericanaFest 2017, where they are past nominees for Emerging Artist of the Year. Ryan Boldt also recently opened for Richard Thompson, who has been a great influence on his work.
