Animism by Tanya Tagaq was voted as the winner of the 2014 Polaris Music Prize tonight at The Carlu in Toronto. The winner was decided and announced during the 9th annual gala event. Tanya Tagaq was awarded a cash prize of $30,000. The winner was announced by the gala host, actor Jay Baruchel.

The Polaris Music Prize today announced the Polaris Cover Sessions. Recorded at Revolution Recording in Toronto, and mastered by João Carvalho Mastering, the cover sessions feature previously nominated Short List artists’ reinterpretations of a fellow Short List artist’s song. These Cover Sessions include Great Lake Swimmers doing I’m A Mountain by Sarah Harmer, Sarah Harmer reimagining Odessa by Caribou, and a new version of The New Pornographers’ Bones Of An Idol by Whitehorse

Extreme weather forced Interstellar Rodeo to cancel the opening night of this year’s festival, and it was Corb Lund and his band’s willingness to play a Monday night make-up show which set in motion a flurry of phone calls and planning, and a full lineup came together in a matter of hours.
