WAGONS SET TO RELEASE RUMBLE, SHAKE AND TUMBLE
The title Rumble, Shake and Tumble effectively captures Wagons‘ rowdy roots-rock style, a Red, White and Blue palette of rock ‘n’ roll, country, cabaret, psychedelia and soul. That’s the Australian Red, White, and Blue of course!
Rumble, Shake and Tumble, out August 16, bursts forth with massive open chord riffing in the Tom Petty-ish “Downlow.” The swampy stompy of “I Blew It” then gives way to the dark country epic “Love is Burning” (better get that checked out fellas, pretty sure your love ain’t supposed to burn). Wagons’ gentler side shines in the cuss-laced-yet-tender “Moon Into Sun” and heartbreaking ballad “My Daydreams,” which settles somewhere between Neil Young and Roy Orbison, and still rules even though it isn’t quite as cuss-laced (I have to admit, I love a good cuss lacin’). There’s a special place in Six Shooter’s heart for second to last track “Life’s Too Short” – a feel better ditty that sums it all up while steering clear of self-help terrain. Inspired by American icons old and new, and bearing Cormac McCarthy’s harrowing Western gothic fingerprint, the record holds unexpected twists, turns and moods, punctuated throughout by Henry Wagons’ grunts and snarls (and sangin’ of course!).
