South Texas Suite, Whitney Rose’s love letter to the Lone Star State, is out today on Six Shooter Records. The distinct fusion of classic country and girl group era pop puts an unmistakable stamp on the new collection, which has already put Rose on many ‘Artists to Watch in 2017’ radars across North America. South Texas Suite is also gaining radio traction, and debuted as #2 on the Most Added album on the Americana Radio Chart.
From the Waylon-esque stomp of ‘My Boots’ to the soaring Ronnettes-recall of ‘Bluebonnets for My Baby,” South Texas Suite packs a lot into just six songs. Rose is earning serious honky-tonk stripes for the self-produced EP, which is a nod to Texas’ rich country music history from a decidedly modern – and feminist – perspective. This element is not lost on reviewers, who align Rose with the likes of Amanda Shires and Kacey Musgraves, artists who are at “the vanguard of country music’s ladies getting their own.” (AXS)
Rose’s four-month tour makes several stops in Canada, including Toronto – where her career really began – and select dates across western Canada. Rose will also return home, that’s Austin now, for SXSW, before heading to Europe, Scandinavia and the UK.
