JULY TALK RELEASE NEW SINGLE “REPEAT”
July Talk mark December 21, the longest night of the year, with “Repeat,” from forthcoming album Remember Never Before. “Repeat” is a worry stone, a meditation on the decisions we make and the reasons we make them.
In recent years, July Talk has released a cover song on the winter solstice, a collection that now includes selections from FKA Twigs and James, Floyd Red Crow Westerman and Mclusky. The through line, true for “Repeat” too, is these are songs that wipe the slate clean, songs that shimmer with beauty and defiance, and songs that set the space for reflection as the earth tilts.
The sounds of Remember Never Before, coming January 20, 2023, careen from the urgent agitation of “After This,” described by BBC6’s Steve Lamacq as “impatient and fidgety,” to the angular dissonance of “Certain Father,” a song that meets aggression with compassion and challenges gendered polarities.
The themes of “Certain Father” inform a new micro film series, a set of six explosive mini episodes in which July Talk bring their high concept visual work into the short form video era. Directed by Nadia Tan, the micro films explore the choice of tenderness over violence as rituals of understanding each other. Watch the “Certain Father” series here.
Remember Never Before arrives Jan 20, 2023.
