HEART, SOUL AND ROCK N’ ROLL: INTERSTELLAR RODEO EDMONTON UNVEILS THIS YEAR’S LINEUP, PACKED WITH TOP-NOTCH, GENRE-BENDING SONGWRITERS.

INTERSTELLAR RODEO EDMONTON TAKES PLACE JULY 21-23, 2017 AT HAWRELAK PARK.

WEEKEND PASSES ON SALE SUNDAY, MAY 7 @ 9am MT.

The 2017 Interstellar Rodeo Edmonton lineup is here. For its sixth year, Interstellar Rodeo Edmonton offers a feast of songwriting brilliance, featuring captivating and extraordinary performers from all corners of North America. Interstellar’s stage has quickly become a go-to destination for Edmonton’s adventurous and appreciative music lovers, and 2017’s lineup offers fire-starters, hit-makers, risk-takers and scene-makers, all on one stage, all in one weekend.

This year’s headliners include the long-awaited return of indie music progenitors Broken Social Scene, who have new music at the ready. Californian R&B/soul songwriter Aloe Blacc, a multi-talented artist with a golden touch and a heart of gold, will make his Edmonton debut on Interstellar’s stage. Powerhouse Serena Ryder, who has a spark-throwing new single in hand, is guaranteed to deliver an electrifying show.

INTERSTELLAR RODEO EDMONTON 2017 LINEUP:

BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE * ALOE BLACC * SERENA RYDER
SUZANNE VEGA * JOHN K. SAMSON and The WINTER WHEAT
BASIA BULAT * DAN MANGAN * JD MCPHERSON
THE SUFFERS * COLD SPECKS * AMELIA CURRAN
PARKER MILLSAP * WHITNEY ROSE * BEGONIA * LEONARD SUMNER

Interstellar is excited to welcome iconic folk phenom Suzanne Vega – who hasn’t performed in Edmonton in nearly twenty years – back to Alberta. Vega expanded the very definition of ‘folk music,’ and blazed trails for generations of songwriters, including fellow Interstellar 2017 performers Basia Bulat and Amelia Curran, both artists who have pushed their sound into new realms on recent albums.

Interstellar Rodeo 2017 has a lot of soul (mixed with pop, funk, country and more). The Suffers, a 10-piece band from Houston, Texas, are bound to be one of this year’s musical discoveries with their ludicrously enjoyable live show. Cold Specks, an internationally-acclaimed songwriter from Ontario, has taken the world by storm with her ‘doom-soul’ stylings. Winnipeg’s Begonia, new to the scene but with similar promise, fuses her soul-tinged timbre with pop-minded synths and beats.

This year’s lineup also features artists who mine Midwestern allegory and identity, from the prairie philosophy of Winnipeg’s John K. Samson and The Winter Wheat to the brimstone-borne Americana of Parker Millsap and heartland pulse in the rock n’ roll of JD McPherson, both from Oklahoma.

As always, Interstellar Rodeo 2017 is a place to find artists who don’t fit easily into genre boxes. The festival is thrilled to welcome Dan Mangan, who has built an award-winning career with eccentric, experimentally-oriented indie rock. Emerging songwriter Whitney Rose is turning heads with her unique mix of classic country and vintage pop. Winnipeg’s Leonard Sumner’s poetic, fusion of hip-hop, spoken word, country and R&B is a powerful vehicle for his important perspective.

Interstellar Rodeo’s imaginative approach to lineup creation once again offers a lineup packed with exceptional performers, both iconic and emerging.

Weekend passes will be on sale to the general public at 9am MT on Sunday, May 7, 2017. Tickets can be purchased at store.sixshooterrecords.com
