Boy Golden shares four new full band takes on songs from his JUNO Award nominated album, For Eden. Out today, Finding Eden shows Boy Golden’s natural knack for shaping sound, a testament to his keen production instincts, with rich and multihued layers in which his indie folk manifests its fulsome groove.
A juicy tenor guitar twang opens “Three Scenes,” a song true to its title in J.J. Cale-esque lyrical economy. In this version, Boy Golden two-steps through three different but impactful wake-up calls, from a near miss on an icy road to marching in a protest to catching sight of a special face in the crowd. With a little help from his musical friends, “Three Scenes” (Band Version) offers snapshots of life’s profound and direction-changing moments, wherever and whenever they occur.
“Here to Stay” remains a banjo-driven sign to accept one’s purpose, with lush accompaniment that blooms as Boy Golden searches for his peace of mind. “Mesmerized” floats like a reverie, a delicate wooziness echoing the song’s intimate sentiment. “Burn” remains a sweetly boastful salute to the band, welcoming Catskill-vibing keys on an unhurried ode to the same talented players that now join in.
“Playing these songs live proved to me that they could exist in many forms,” says Boy Golden. “The Church of Better Daze band brought their usual attention to detail and groove and lifted the songs to new heights. I could see they were resonating with audiences, so I decided to re-record four of the songs we were playing live immediately after getting home from a tour.”
“I am always so proud of the work we do as a band and the live show we present, it felt really good to entrust these songs to their capable hands, and have them finished by Robbie Lackritz, who has become a frequent collaborator over the last half-year,” adds Boy Golden. “I hope people enjoy these songs as much as we enjoy playing them.”
Boy Golden’s interpretations of the Nebraska-inspired, cassette-recorded originals show an artist committed to the creative process. On Finding Eden, Boy Golden brings in his close and trusted circle of friends, collaborators and bandmates that comprise the Church of Better Daze, a congregation of world-class musicians all based in Winnipeg, MB. Finding Eden features Kris Ulrich (electric guitar), Austin Parachoniak (electric guitar), Fontine Beavis (vocals and percussion), Roman Clarke (drums) and Boy Golden (12 string guitar, organ, piano, banjo and synth).

ABOUT BOY GOLDEN
Freewheelin’ and deep feelin’, Boy Golden makes music that elides decade and genre. Sliding seamlessly from indie folk to roadhouse twang, Boy Golden is guided by a simple directive: “make good art with your friends.” Sincerity, self-discovery and second-guessing are recurrent lyrical themes, no surprise for an artist whose real deal songwriting is a direct reflection of life as it’s lived. What makes a Boy Golden song special is its ability to transport the best qualities of 70s folk, 90s country or early 2000s indie rock into the here and now, a sound that is as well-crafted as it is irresistible.
Boy Golden found immediate success on his debut LP Church of Better Daze, which contained the breakout, chart-topping mono-mixed guide to low budget living, “KD and Lunch Meat.” His first headline tours saw sell-outs across the country, with festival appearances including Winnipeg Folk Fest, Osheaga, Edmonton and Calgary Folk Festivals, Rifflandia, Saskatoon Jazz Festival and more. Boy Golden’s charmingly chameleonic sound makes him just as welcome at a country festival as he is at a rock show. Subsequent tours with Sheepdogs, The Paper Kites, Lucero and more and a breakout appearance at AmericanaFest 2023 have spread the Church of Better Daze gospel of good times far and wide.
Boy Golden, one and the same as producer Liam Duncan, is adept in modern studio techniques and analog recording alike. His most recent JUNO Award nominated album, For Eden, was recorded entirely to cassette. Both a songwriting and studio wiz, Boy Golden honed his skills developing his own musical identity, leading a crackerjack band of Winnipeg talent collectively known as the Church of Better Daze, and steering countless solo projects by these friends and collaborators. Production credits include William Prince, Cat Clyde, FONTINE and more. 2025 is dedicated to creating new music, with Boy Golden headed into the studio with famed producer Robbie Lackritz (Feist, Bahamas, The Weather Station) following an extended writing residency in Nashville.
