ANNOUNCING THE 2014 INTERSTELLAR RODEO ARTIST ROSTER!
The moment is finally here. We started booking this summer’s line up as soon as last year’s festival closed, and we’re completely stoked about the incredible expanse of artists who will be joining us this summer.
We all know that our fair city of Edmonton is a great place for music, and we’re lucky that there is such exceptional homegrown talent. This year, we are excited to have Corb Lund and The Hurtin’ Albertans as one of our headliners, and to introduce Jeff Stuart and The Hearts, one of the rising stars on the local scene.
Two completely different, completely electrifying collaborations from big name artists make Interstellar Rodeo 2014 a destination for music fans looking for one of a kind live music experiences. Gord Downie, The Sadies, and The Conquering Sun, an idea that was years in the making, represent Canada’s most uncommon, enigmatic musical talents. Similarly, the triple-threat of Hydra brings the rich soundscapes of Snowblink and AroarA’s art rock guitar fuzz together with the unmistakable pipes of Leslie Feist.
We continue with Interstellar Rodeo’s trademark theme to celebrate artistic outlaws and musical mavericks. We are drawn to fearless, unique performers who refuse to settle for anything less than greatness. Jason Isbell, Andrew Bird, Bahamas and Justin Townes Earle are all incredible examples of artists who are at the top of their game.
There’s no weak link in this year’s deeply varied, talent-rich lineup. Our festival is a place of musical discovery with artists on the brink of big things. Bands who will make an impact this year include St. Paul and the Broken Bones, The Lone Bellow, and Six Shooter’s own The Strumbellas. Six Shooter Records is also represented this year by two of our international bands, Trampled By Turtles and Wagons. Wagons is officially the first Interstellar alumni to return – those who attended in 2012 will remember this Aussie tour de force as the smash hit that year.
We are proud to present the cream of the crop in a variety of genres, traditional and cutting-edge, from the classic soul of Lee Fields & The Expressions to the art-rock of Ford Pier. And, of course, there’s always a place for the rock bands – The Hold Steady, Bidiniband and No Sinner will satisfy those who like it loud.
We know that great music always starts with a song. Across our lineup, top-notch songwriters are again in the spotlight this year. Amos Lee, Tift Merritt, Jadea Kellyand, Selina Martin are all proof that no matter the genre, talented songwriters will always connect with music fans.
