FULLY SUBMERGED: JULY TALK RELEASE NEW SINGLE “I AM WATER”

Like all true Scorpios, “I Am Water” is ruled by a vast force of emotion, just as the tide is controlled by the moon. Powered by alarm and elation, the new song celebrates moving our bodies. “But we coincide,” Leah and Peter sing; we are here, now, together. When we face the cosmic improbability of it all, we can dance.

Release and unleash, be pulled by the moon out into the night. Dive into “I Am Water,” produced and mixed by Graham Walsh, in the video below.

We are thrilled to welcome JULY TALK to the Six Shooter world. This new era also brings the founding of Danuta, a home base for Leah Fay Goldstein and Peter Dreimanis’ many artistic pursuits.

ARTHORSE: MEET LYLE BELL, CREATIVE WIZARD BEHIND WHITEHORSE’S DOUBLE ALBUM DROP OF 2021

Six Shooter celebrates the work of artist-in-residence Lyle Bell, leader of the label’s in-house Art Squad, with a new mini-doc that goes behind the scenes and into the creative minds of the visual team behind Whitehorse’s 2021 releases.

In 2020, Whitehorse delivered three new full-length albums to Six Shooter Records, home of the artists’ solo careers and musical partnership for over 20 years. Modern Love is a hushed lo-fi affair, a collection of tender and juicy secrets whispered directly into your ear. Strike Me Down, album number 2, is a work of bravado and bluster, all high gloss and megawatts. The third, well, it’s not quite time for that yet, but trust us when we say it’s Whitehorse at their most excellent.

But what would these albums, photos and videos look like? How could it all be done in the middle of a pandemic, on a limited budget? And, most importantly, who would translate these vastly different moods into visuals? Enter Lyle Bell, mad scientist, wizard and captain of Six Shooter’s Art Squad.

Step into Lyle Bell’s creative process in a brand new, ‘making of’ mini doc here.

Part I: Modern Love: What if an album cover goes POP?
Part II: Strike Me Down: Building an album cover you can smash.
Part III: Target Practice: The making of “Promises” official video
Part IV: Whitehorse Rides Again

ABOUT LYLE BELL

An artistic renaissance man of sorts, Lyle is currently the resident graphic designer and photographer at Six Shooter Records. He is an accomplished musician and songwriter, relentlessly writing and touring with his bands The Wet Secrets, Whitey Houston and synthlords Shout Out Out Out Out. He cut his teeth working at famed alt paper Vue Weekly, screening gig posters, building cameras and obsessing over analog photography in the dark room.

SUNSHINE, BUT MAKE IT DARK: THE DEAD SOUTH RELEASE “YOU ARE MY SUNSHINE” WITH NEW VIDEO

What happens when a band like The Dead South take a sweet cheerful tune like “You Are My Sunshine” and flip it inside out? The result is the newest release by the finger-snapping foot-stomping quartet. One part nostalgic and two parts dark and desperate, The Dead South put their distinct bluegrass spin on the childhood classic. With haunting harmonies, tell-tale banjo picking, and the eerie intensity of cello, this is “You Are My Sunshine” like you’ve never heard before.

“You Are My Sunshine” is the first single off of upcoming EP, Easy Listening for Jerks, Part I. Watch the stark new video filmed in one continuous shot by Two Brothers Films here

SUNNY FORECAST: THE DEAD SOUTH ANNOUNCE EASY LISTENING FOR JERKS, PARTS I & II

The Dead South are back with not one but TWO brand new EPs in the form of Easy Listening for Jerks, Parts I & II. The first is a collection of bluegrass songs that reimagine cheery classic tunes, such as “You Are My Sunshine,” out Oct 8, with a dark and desperate tone. The latter is a set of modern rock anthems. While vastly different in origin, each EP bears the watermark of the iconic Dead South sound and together they form a crash course in the band’s musical influences.

Stay tuned for “You Are My Sunshine” on Friday, and in the meantime check out the Twin Twangler Tour to see if The Dead South are heading to your town in 2022.

Dear Diary, Whitehorse’s New Video for “Sometimes Amy” Is Out Today

“Sometimes Amy” directed by Caitlin Veitch (Six Shooter Records).

A laugh track for heartache, Whitehorse’s new song “Sometimes Amy” is an emotional SOS in the specific and highly singable shape of a ’90s sitcom theme. Now with a new video that dials up the dear diary drama, “Sometimes Amy” pleads for relief with Whitehorse’s signature combination guitar and harmonies.

As it playfully jumps from wood paneled basement head bopping to arcade rock n’ roll to dreamy pastel bedroom phone tag, “Sometimes Amy” changes settings as quickly as it changes moods, between loving and loathing, wanting more and having enough of it already.

“Sometimes Amy” is found on the forthcoming Strike Me Down, out September 10.
