"BLUEBIRD WINE" BY ELLIOTT BROOD
Baby brought me in out off the highway
Made me put my money in the bank
Straightened out my crooked way of thinking
Made it purely pleasure when I drank
When you’ve gone into Town and country and back, those days when you seek to pause are easier to find when you’ve got a good partner to help you slow down, dig into your roots and have a little “Bluebird Wine.”
“Bluebird Wine” holds comfortable company with Elliott BROOD’s focus on personal storytelling, and their lyrical love of spirits. Expanding on Rodney Crowell’s original’s acoustic version, the BROOD layer on their signature stomp and clap sound and their unique blend of vocal tones, creating an elixir of lifestyle, a feeling to imbibe that brings joy and fullness.
And it's all right
I've just hit my stride
Right off the bat
Lord, I'm drunk on bluebird wine
A true country ripper, “Bluebird Wine” chirps and hops along with a peppy verve. Relentless in its pacing and energy, the BROOD expertly orchestrate acoustic and electric guitars of Mark Sasso and Casey Laforet to the rhythms of Steve Pitkin’s drumming. With base notes of Texas country, full bodied Americana and flutters of rim-shot percussion, Elliott BROOD infuse their own experiences into the 1970s hit.
“I didn’t even know who Rodney Crowell was until I saw the film Heartworn Highways,” Laforet shares. “That film is up there with The Last Waltz for me. The version from the film (played with a very young Steve Earle) has been on my personal playlist ever since. I started playing around with a different arrangement that I really liked that brought up the energy a bit.”
Now baby taught me a different way of thinkin'
Like how to spend my evenings here at home
Listening to the music on the radio
Drinking all the bluebird we can hold
Their guitars are smooth with a peppery fire, grinding and grooving along, sounding fuller than the BROOD’s three players. There are no punches pulled and no pauses, either, because it’s all about hitting your stride and staying in that feeling for as long as you can. Vocally, Laforet holds the chorus notes like an outstretched hand, welcoming friends and family into this rowdy kitchen party scene. Pure pleasure and positively jaunty, “Bluebird Wine” is here to fill your cup.
