MELISSA McCLELLAND LAUNCHES VICTORIA DAY

Let every day be Victoria Day, except for days where you get fined for not shoveling snow off of your sidewalks, or days when you can only name one of Rick Astley's two hits, even though both are on the tip of your tongue (and you usually carry a cheat sheet, but you can't find it in your over-stuffed wallet), or days when you are super stressed out and busy and you’ve had waaay too much coffee so you decide to make tea instead, but then you forget that you have water on the stove and you wind up scorching the bottom of your favorite saucepan (waitasec, who the hell says "saucepan"? That's like saying "chesterfield"). Anyway, let all the sweet days be Victoria Day. Victoria is nice, they have floating homes there! Oh, and guess what?! Our pal Melissa McClelland has returned with her highly anticipated third album, which is coincidentally titled Victoria Day, and her first for Six Shooter Records! Yaaaah! Produced by Luke Doucet (he's this really cool guy, and we totally know him), the album showcases Melissa's songwriting style that is at once both modern and classic, defined by vintage guitar tones (classic), rootsy instrumentation (uh... classic), and above all, the timelessness and beauty of Melissa's celebrated voice (modern!). Released one week ago, the album is already getting rave reviews, although it doesn't seem to be getting many reviews in raves (those candy kids don't know what they're missin'). Melissa takes her band on the road in Ontario and western Canada throughout April, and then to Europe in May. See the ever popular "tour dates" section of this newsletter below for more info.

HAWKSLEY WORKMAN HEADS TO EUROPE, TOO

In fact, you might see Luke and Melissa checking out Hawksley in Paris for a show there at the Boule Noir. That last statement only makes sense if you read the second last sentence in the previous section, otherwise you're black-balled. I'll give you a minute to re-cap just in case...

Ok, so the fantabulous and alliterational Kyrie Kristmanson is joining Hawksley for his dates in Paris, London and Zurich. The mini-tour will bergin (you'll get it in a sec) with a performance at the Bergen Festival in Norway (ayyyy), following a few warm up dates in Ontario. Ya know, get the ol' heart rate up, good excuse to wear leg warmers, that sort of thing.

SHOUT OUT OUT OUT OUT GET ALL CONTINENTAL ON YO BREAKFAST

It's been just over a month since the Canadian release of Reintegration Time, Shout Out Out Out Out's sophomore album, and the synth-obsessed Edmontonians have been busy beavers! The first leg of their album tour took Shout Out Out Out Out on a western US swing, with a wildly successful stop at SXSW in Austin, where the band played 5 shows to packed houses. The first leg of the tour also included stops in SF, LA, Denver, Portland, and Victoria before finishing off by bringing the house down at Juno Fest in Vancouver. From here, Shout Out Out Out Out look ahead to the second leg of their tour, which starts tomorrow and heads across Canada and into the Eastern US, and the release of Reintegration Time in the US on May 5th. This is a milestone for both the band, and our associated label Normals Welcome, as it will be the debut American release for both! Yayee! Stateside press has already caught on to SO4's magic, with features in Billboard, Keyboard Magazine, EQ Magazine, and the cover of CMJ already nailed down. This morning I was so tired that I tried to open the front door of my house with the remote opener key thingy for my car, true story.

ROYAL WOOD IS LOST AND FOUND

Royal's "romantic piano playing and deep, resonant vocal tones" (The Coast) led legions of fans to snap up advance copies of his latest work, The Lost and Found EP, which came out March 24 on Dead Daisy Records. On this new release, Royal's "bitchin' ass ivory tinkling" (unknown source) is accompanied by lush strings (we mean purdy, not perpetually wasted) and swooning imagery (like Brody Jenner with his shirt off, but put into music). This epic jam is titled Lost & Found, and it bridges his last album, A Good Enough Day, and an upcoming full length he's got stored in the cheeks of a squirrelly top notch producer (it makes sense in my head... almost). Royal's gangster wit and smooth talkin' also landed him a spot on Gray's Anatomy, as well as some dates with Serena Ryder, and some recent shining press from CBC and some east coast admirers. Royal is never one to disappoint, so he has opted to postpone his scheduled "Royal's official pizza and Blossom season 1 viewing marathon", and instead book in some gigaroonies, including a spot on Vinyl Cafe, a show at our home-away-from-home, the Blacksheep Inn in Wakefield, QC, a play at the London Music Club and a sure-to-be-sold out show at Hugh's Room in May. Get your tickets now!

JENN GRANT GOES GREEN

Jenn Grant's rippin' new album, Echoes (not to be confused with any albums by Pink Floyd or The Rapture, or any novels by Danielle Steel, or any cars discontinued by Toyota, only to be replaced by the much cooler Yaris), has captured the hearts of so many across the country, including the organizers of the Green Awards, who have asked Jenn to perform a couple of songs at their gala event on April 23 (good thing she doesn't play the blues... get it? HAW HAW). Man, check out how long that last sentence was, I RULE! Stay tuned for more tour dates with Jenn in May/June.
