All I want for Christmas is a baby Pig cuddling a basket full of Dachshunds... and a Hamster on a piano, eating popcorn. I'm serious, is this too much to ask? Oh, and by the way, Gossip Girl is some quality viewing. Why can't Serena and Dan just be honest with each other and live happily ever after? Whyeeee?

EXCLAIM! HEART SIX SHOOTER

We loved opening Exclaim! Magazine's Wood Wires and Whiskey Year in Review and finding four of our releases in the Top Ten! How bitchin' are we? Apparently we are the woodiest, most wired, whiskey soaked gun slingers everrrr. Ten gallon hats off to Elliott BROOD, Justin Rutledge, Luke Doucet, and NQ Arbuckle for helping define the WWW genre (does this mean that we also have the internet going nuts? Yes it does). Cooler still is that this particular roundup puts our fellers in an elite list that also includes some of our fave bands, including Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Calexico, and the Drive by Truckers. I believe the term is "yeeeehaw".

LUKE DOUCET TAKES HOME FOLK AWARD

Up against Oliver Shroer, Annabell Chvostek, and two of our brethren, Justin Rutledge and NQ Arbuckle, Luke Doucet walked away with the Canadian Folk Music Award for Contemporary Album of the Year. For his victory dance, Luke took a cue from legendary Edmonton Eskimo Gizmo Williams and did a rippin' backflip. This was followed by a civil handshake for Oliver and Annabell, and a quite rude "In Yo' Face!!!!" to Justin and NQ. A pie-in-the-face retaliation is expected in the new year. What can we do? Brethren will be brethren!

AMELIA CURRAN (RE-)RELEASES WAR BRIDES

We are mega hella stoked to bring Amelia Curran's beautiful album, War Brides, to the rest of Canada and beyond (watch for its European release in Feb 09), and it is making the expected waves amongst critics across the country. Best believe we are surfing those waves, you should see us "shoot the tube", as we say in the biz. Earning constellations of 4-star reviews, journalists are calling Amelia "Canada's newest great singer-songwriter". Find out more... check out an interview we just did with Amelia, shot by Joanne Tickle.

HAWKSLEY WORKMAN RULES BOTH HEMISPHERES

After a smash show to a near sell-out crowd at Massey Hall a couple of weeks ago, Hawksley Workman takes his Manlicious show to the southern hemisphere where he will rock the mainstages of two of Australia's biggest festivals. This is of course if he can manage to pull himself from the natural wonder of a toilet that flushes backwards and the confusing language barrier of beer being pronounced BEEEAYAH! Don’t get me started on the whole issue of not being able to find the venue because Hawksley uses the nighttime sky as his only means of navigation ( they have it all wrong Down Under). Assuming these obstacles are overcome, he follows the festival swing up with a string of club and theatre shows. See below for all the details.

(Oh, and as a testament and an apology, Hawksley rocked Massey so hard, he squeezed every last bit of juice out of those gifted vocals chords of his, causing him to have to miss his next two shows, which have since been rescheduled. See below for make-up dates).

JENN GRANT DATES DANNY MICHEL

Jenn Grant is on her way back to Ontario, this time to play some shows with one of our fave songwriters, Danny Michel. She is traveling by Pegasus, it will be quite a majestic journey indeed. Check them out over three nights at the Rivoli, a sweet night in London, and two great shows at the Blacksheep in Wakefield, one of our fave venues everrr (OK, oops, so we are a bit late in sending this out... but you wouldn't have been able to get tickets for those other shows anyway, because they were sold out!).

TIX TIX TIX TIX TIX TIX TIX

Make someone happy this Christmas with the gift of concert tickets. This of course would only kind of make me happy, since I have my heart set on a pig cuddling a dachsund or a hamster eating popcorn on a piano, but for those with less refined taste you can expect big grins for the following big tickets.

Luke Doucet follows up his James Blunt support slot with a headline national tour of his own, starting Feb 24 and running through to the first week of April.

Jenn Grant releases her chiefin' new CD, "Echoes", with a string of shows in all her favourite places (yes, this means that if she doesn't play your town, you aren't her fave. Enjoy that lump of coal!), starting Feb 11 in Charlottetown.

Martin Tielli leads a triple bill of his dearest friends, including BidiniBand and Selina Martin. This show is on Jan 31 for London, ON fans only!

And coming up right away are some hot New Year's Eve shows in Toronto and Edmonton. Check out Elliott BROOD and NQ Arbuckle at Lee's Palace, pop some Cristal, and celebrate!

KNOB GREATNESS

We are very excited about all the new studio projects we have in the works for 2009. Melissa McClelland puts the finishing touches on her album in January to prepare for an April release. Same with Kevin Hearn. And Dave Bidini unveils his new solo project, Bidiniband, in the spring as well. Justin Rutledge heads north to Huntsville to create his next masterpiece with our own Hawksley Workman in February. Luke Doucet has the entire month of June set aside for recording his next album. Royal Wood and Hawksley Workman are also both going into the studio in 2009. It's going to be a busy, beautiful year.

GREAT SHOPPING ON QUEEN STREET EAST

Torontonians (and visiting lesser global citizens) should make the trek east to visit us at our store (1118 Queen St. E.). We've got a great selection of dirty Santa Claus cards (we so naughty!), great music biographies (I hear that Neil Young joint is a gooder), a fantastic CD selection (we gots a ton of Six Shooter releases! For real!), tons of great gifts (umbrella-ella-ella-ella), and check out our expanding range of Six Shooter shirts in hot new colours (including electric puce!).

CONTEST

It is most definitely that time of year! Top ten lists! Our pals in Shout Out Out Out Out have already stepped up to the plate and posted each member's top ten albums of 2008 on their mypsazz blog. Check it out at www.myspace.com/shoutoutoutoutout

What does this mean to you? Contest! Here are the rules:

We want to know what has been on repeat in your stereo for the last year. Send us your top ten albums of 2008. All albums must have been released in 2008, re-issues are excluded, and you can include up to a maximum of 5 runners up. We will draw the names of 3 people who send in their lists and send them a special present in the mail from Shauna Claus. Padding your list with Six Shooter releases won’t help ya win, but it will make us like you more, and hell we can’t blame ya for having good taste!
