I have had an unbelievable run of bad luck lately... For starters, my laundry situation reached critical mass the other day, we're talking major stinky gaunch pile, and when I went down to the laundry room to take care of said washing, some skid had broken into my building and jacked the quarter machine doohicky from the washing machine! No worky!

LUKE DOUCET HAS BETTER LUCK WITH LAUNDRY THAN ME

Calgary fans got a hot Douce injection last week, and now Luke is poised to have his way with Wakefield, Hamilton, Toronto, Waterloo, London, Windsor and Buffalo. Luke will be road-testing new material for his next album, so git on down to his shows and see what you're in for way way way in advance! Oh, and Luke would rather discuss the subtleties of the Primitivo grape than sell his own CDs, so we are looking for some friendly volunteers to sell merch in these cities? Please e-mail shauna@sixshooterrecords.com.

It pisses me off that my email program uses the Verdana typeface. Don't they know that I only roll with Helvetica?! Geez!

Then, after my laundry fiasco, I needed to go pick up a bass amp from a downtown rehearsal space to lend to a touring band that rolled through on a Sunday when all the music shops were closed. First off, it took me 45 minutes to drive there because it was a lovely sunny day and every frickin' doopy-doo-ing Sunday driver was out cramming the streets with their slowness. Then when I finally arrived, I realized that I had somehow managed to lose the only set of keys to the space sometime during the 45 minutes I spent rotting in traffic! How does that happen?

JUSTIN RUTLEDGE HAS BETTER LUCK WITH TRAFFIC AND KEYS THAN ME

Justin Rutledge is playing a chiefin' show with Eleni Mandell in Toronto TONIGHT. It will be joyful and triumphant, not unlike all ye faithful. After that, Justin is going to engage in a strict regime of BBQ sauce baths and bourbon showers before heading down to Nashville (home of cats that are good at picking...picking what?, who can say?) to rock the Basement stage on May 21 + 29.

So on my way back from my discouraging drive to a locked door, I noticed that all the "check engine" type lights were coming up on my dashboard. My oil was looking a lil' dirrrty, so the next day i took it in for an oil change. This of course escalated into a full-scale "everything's wrong with your van, you should start saving up for a new one" lecture from the oil change lady, and eventually wound up costing me 200 bucks! Maybe I'm just a sucker, but if they tell me I'm out of pretty much every fluid that can go into a vehicle, I have no choice but to fork over the cash. Bummer. Anyway...

SIX SHOOTER SIGNS WITH ROUNDER EUROPE

We are very pleased to put pen to paper on a deal with Rounder Europe! Bert and the gang (and we certainly don't mean Ernie and a flock of pigeons) are extremely fantastic people (not that Ernie and a flock of pigeons aren't... gee). They are already pounding the pavement for Euro-faves Elliott Brood, who are off to Europe this week. Now you'll be able to order our fantastic CDs in Latvia, Poland, and a whole bunch of other places where we previously were not available.

This new deal is great news, but in order to really ease my pain from the bad oil change experience, I needed a nice cup of coffee. So I drove the six blocks or so to my fave cafe, and went in for a double espresso. Satisfied with my little caffeine buzz, I got back in my van (the one I just spent $200 filing with various fluids), and of course it wouldn't even start. greaat.

RHEOSTATICS TRIBUTE CD

The final note sung by Martin Tielli at Massey Hall is still ringing in our ears (I think it was a G# or something), even a month later (or maybe it's tinnitus). In their honour, the boys at Zunior assembled a bunch of Rheostatics-era indie bands to record their favourite Rheos' songs together on a disc called The Secret Sessions, with artwork by Matt James. Bad Time to be Poor by The Weakerthans, Legal Age Life at the Variety Store by the Barenaked Ladies, and Stolen Car by Kate Fenner are some of my faves. The Secret Sessions is available for download at www.zunior.com . There are also a few copies left for sale at the Six Shooter store on Queen St. E (coolest store everrrr), along with the remaining Massey Hall posters and a psychedelic shrine to the Rheos featuring a life sized Shauna de Cartier that cries blood.

Of course, when your luck is as good as mine, when you call the battery guy he'll take an hour and a half to get there, then he'll tell you that your battery is fine, it's your alternator that is busted, you'll consider making a joke about how Perry Farrell is "a total alternator, duuuuude!", then realize your alternator is busted and that's not very funny at all. Then, of course the battery guy calls the tow truck, which takes another hour and a half, which is wisely used consuming two more double espressos and contemplating how long it'll take to save up for a new alternator. Dubya tee eff?!

SIX SHOOTER'S INTERNET ACTION HAS BETTER LUCK WITH ALTERNATORS THAN ME

Around the office, we have all been talking about becoming Second Lifers, except that we don't have nearly enough spare time. And, we're not NERDS! Oh wait, yes we are. While we free up our nerdy social calendars, here are a couple of cyberbits we thought you might be interested in:

-myspace.com/sixshooterrecords: we put it back up on line (thanks, Emily) and we’d really like you to come and be our friend. May be we can even go to a youtube movie together sometime!

-Hey, Blender.com put up a video of Shout out out out out: http://www.blender.com/video/1003/SXSW2007ShoutOutOutOutOutInterview.video

-We also got around to putting up all of our artists' videos on youtube. Search for Luke Doucet, Justin Rutledge, Martin Tielli, Elliott Brood, NQ Arbuckle, Veal, Rheostatics, Valery Gore, and Christine Fellows.

-Another youtube favourite is our friend Dan Boggs' creation called Song of Suprene. Check it, you'll never look at being put under in quite the same way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIew278Iqco

-Also very fun is watching Luke Doucet give live commentary about his videos on roxwel.com: check these links:

Now that my van is dead I decided to ride my rusty BMX to work. Of course, it’s been sitting in the rain for a few days, the seat is basically a sponge, and so I've been enjoying the feeling of wet denim on my ass all day.

SEE YOU SOON ON QUEEN STREET EAST IF I MAKE IT!

Come down to Six Shooter central in Toronto and check out all kinds of cynical souvenirs! 'Do I look like a fucking people person?' and other great cards are now available in the store. Also, check out our new music magazine collection, including Mojo, No Depression, Magnet, URB, Spin, Under the Radar, Comes with a Smile, Maverick, Q, Uncut, Fader, Filter, Blender, Rolling Stone, Harp, Bust, and Chart.

And pick up new albums by Oh Susanna and Feist.

Oh yeah, we are doing some minor renovations and improvements in the store, part of which means saying goodbye to the beautiful antique display case we have in there now. $750 and it's yours. But don't tell our bosses! Don’t you hate ads that say that?

I don't know if I really even want to get into my botched currency exchange attempt, or the dismal weather forecast for my sorely needed and unrealistic vacation plans next week. Bad luck, bad luck. Waaah.

HOT DOC(KET)S

Wet Secrets force majeur and indie-filmmaker Trevor Anderson just won the Lindalee Tracey Award for his short film Rock Pockets. Woo hoo! Rock Pockets is an autobiographical film about an adolescent gay fella watching banger couples at the local fair walking around with their hands in each other's tight jean pockets, pining for the experience, and in the end being underwhelmed with the experience after giving it a go with a straight friend for the filming of a rock video. Now that there is some BAD LUCK (just trying to tie this one in with the other topics). Another Hot Doc worth checking out is "Lovable" by Alan Zweig, which features performances by Amy Millan, Great Lake Swimmers, Jack Breakfast, and others, including our very own Justin Rutledge, who performs two songs.

CONTEST WEINER

Ok, so we got a whole ton of responses to our hangover cure contest, and most of them were quite convincing and surprisingly practical. You must all really be a bunch of lushes! We were so impressed by your hangover prowess, that we decided to put all the entries on our website. the winners however are Kristiana Clemes + Andrea-Jane Cornell from CKUT, who together gave us four entries that we can wholeheartedly agree with:

1) the traditional: gatorade (red), buttered toast, 1 fried egg with salt, 2 tylenol & a chewable vitamin C
2) the de-pickler: jamaican-style ginger beer, grilled cheese sandwich, fries and a pickle
3) the deluxe: liquid oxygen wheatgrass shake & megalife salad from "juice for life"
4) the no-frills: sex and a hot shower

My headache is going away already!

Our next contest is for all you compunerds. Go to our myspace page, add us as a friend, set our logo as your profile picture, and leave us a comment. The first person to follow through with all of these tasks gets a swanky prize and a coveted spot in our "top friends"! Whoa! The prestige!

NXNE COMING SOON!

Our favourite time of year is coming up in June... Six Shooter Ts birthday (this year we're seven) always coincides with North by Northeast and sunshine. This year, almost everyone is playing, and of course we are having our Back Lot BBQ on Saturday, June 9.

We are looking for volunteers to help out with the event, preferably volunteers who are well versed in hangover cures (which apparently includes most of you!). Please contact us if you are down for the pound!

PHOTOS OF THE MONTH

We had a simply lurvely time in Saskatoon at the Juno awards this year. There was barfin', free stuff, and a flying Nelly! Go to our website to check out our photos from Juno weekend!
