Today I actually went to a Starbucks and ordered myself a grande-vanilla-soy-earl-grey-tea-misto! Yep, I actually said those words... what kind of yuppie do I think I am? Geeez. At least I chased that tasty li'l sucker with three cups of strong black coffee. That still keeps me 3/4 street right? RIGHT?
So, anyway, have a holly jolly an' all that. I'm sure all of you are just as busy as we are in this "festive" season, so we'll try to keep this brief and mind-numbingly retarded. I mean awesome. Hoo-aaah!
JUSTIN GIVES AWAY A GUITAR
Justin Rutledge goes Kuh-ray-zee for the whole "spirit-of-giving" thing that surrounds these pepperminty holidayz. So get this, just-in time for Xmas (get it?! his name is Justin, so pretty much the most retarded pun I could make is "just-in time"! HAHAHAHA), win a totally shred-tastic Epiphone guitar from Gibson, signed by Justin, Jim Bryson, and a cast of star-studded musicians at Justin's show in Toronto at the Horseshoe Tavern this Thursday! Yeeek! Maybe you won't have to shop for your kid brother's present on the weekend after all! Tickets for Justin's free-guitar-o-rama are available at sixshooterrecords.com.
Other Christmas shows worth catching: Luke Doucet with the D. Rangers at the Times Change(d) in Winnipeg on Dec 21/22 (seriously, this is the joint to be at if you wanna keep it trill on the Walnut Street tip. 'Peg City stand up! Toss that chicken!); NQ Arbuckle supports the annual Skydiggers Christmas weekend at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto on Dec 22/23 (duuuude, I'm like, totally diggin' that SKY, bro); Tamara Williamson hosts her annual show at the Rivoli in Toronto on Dec 22; and Jenny Whiteley is hosting one at the Cadillac Lounge in Toronto on Dec 23.
JUSTIN IN FRANCE
We are also totally on the tres heureux tip that Justin will be showcasing at the world's biggest music conference in Cannes, France, thanks to EMI Publishing, who is sponsoring the Gala Opening Night at MIDEM 2007 on January 21. Justin and his band are going to play the "uh, yeah, of course we're all totally bilingual in Canada, I'm just shy" card as they rock the stage they are sharing with radical Swedes Mando Diao, rising electronica/indie/rock phenomenon Shiny Toy Guns , New York-based R'n'B septet Naturally 7 from Switzerland, and DJ Eric Prydz.
This show in Frah-nce comes fast on the heels of Justin's first NYC appearance ever: at Joe's Pub on January 17 with Jim Cuddy. If he knows what is good for him he will slam some tacos at San Loco.
SHOUT OUT OUT OUT OUT SCISSORKICK IT TO LONDON + BERLIN
Justin isn't the only one Europeeing in January. Shout Out Out Out Out has booked a whirlwind trip for themselves (which of course actually means that we booked a whirlwind trip for them) which has them performing at Magnet in Berlin on January 18 and at the Barfly in London on January 19. If Nik 7's last trip to Germany is any indication, chances are good that he will be giggling his pants off every time he sees a parking garage with "ausfarht" written on it. From chips n' mayo to chips n' curry, and back to fries n' ketchup within three days! Shoutset homies be settin' tha jets!
(ed. note: Nik 7 will surely be toting his new 'Throw Your Underwear Award, Male' along with his gunnysack of panties to Europe over his shoulder like a proud sailor. If he wins, that is. Vote for Nik at chartattack.com.)
ELLIOTT BROOD + LUKE DOUCET KICK IT STATESIDE
It seems like everyone is splitting town for the winter. After a positively triumphant sold-out show at Lee's Palace in Toronto last weekend, Elliott Brood readies themselves for their upcoming tour on the west coast in January, and Luke Doucet takes up residency at the Basement in his current homebase of Nashville, every Tuesday night.
CHRISTINE FELLOWS GETS YER GOAT
Well, gee whiz, we all know that Christine Fellows is the bees knees, but apparently Mountain Goats agree! Check out homie's glowing remarks on Christine's 'Paper Anniversary' as he puts her album in the number one slot on his top ten of the year for Pitchfork Media. This is what he had to say:
"1. Christine Fellows: Paper Anniversary
Because I am a sad music-obsessive whose condition just gets worse every year, I spent a lot of time in 2006 debating whether Paper Anniversary qualified as a 2006 release. After all, it was released in Canada-- to much acclaim-- in 05. In the end, I had to conclude that this question was moronic. Christine Fellows is writing better songs than anybody else. Everybody else is actually quite pathetic next to her. "
John then goes on to name Li'l Wayne's 'Dedication Pt. 2' mixtape in his best-of 2006 list, which, coincidentally is what I am listening to right now on my ipod as i write this! It's true! And I would probably agree... if Weezy's even newer 'Lil Weezyana' mixtape hadn't just dropped! Whoaaaa! Young Money!
ONE WEEK LEFT UNTIL SANTA COMES TO TOWN
With Christmas just days away, we encourage Toronto folks to stop by our Queen St. E. location and check out our yuleriffic selection of discs, books, dvds, gifts, and jewelry. Sarah Doucet's Christmas Twitch show is still up and fabu, as is the Wax + Wood exhibit....which make great and exclusive gifts for the art-loving loved one. We employed some very advanced math to figure out the top ten sellers out of our store since we opened in June. It comes as no surprise that people are making the eastern trek to acquire discs from our own artists, which fills six of the ten slots. Check it out:
1. LUKE DOUCET - Broken (and other rogue states)
2. JUSTIN RUTLEDGE - The Devil on a Bench in Stanley Park
3. NQ ARBUCKLE - The Last Supper in a Cheap Town
4. AMY MILAN - Honey from the Tomb
5. MELISSA MCCLELLAND - Thumbelina's One Night Stand
6. THE SADIES - In Concert
7. ELLIOTT BROOD - Ambassador
8. SHOUT OUT OUT OUT OUT - Not Saying / Just Saying
9. FINAL FANTASY - He Poos Clouds
10. CHRISTINE FELLOWS - Paper Anniversary
mmmm, that thurr is a tasty list.

TOP TEN CONTEST
Okayee, so the winner of our "come up with a dope contest" contest is our Edmontonian pal Mary Christa O'keefe. She hit a real soft spot with us record nerds by suggesting a top-ten list inspired contest. So here is the deal, send us a list of your top ten albums of 2006, and we will do a random draw from all the entries we receive and not only print your hype list in the next issue of this vastly adored newsletter, but also send you some dope-ass prize (y'know, to be honest, I have no idea what the prizes are for these things. I'm sure the prize is totally rad, it's just not in my jurisdiction. So there ya go, if you were ever wondering, now you know why I don't get specific on the particulars of your fabulous prize). Since the actual winner will be drawn randomly, you will not get bonus points for front-loading your list with Six Shooter artists, but we will of course love you forever if we feel we've been felt.
