Ok, seriously, what is the deal with the internet? It's like TV crossed with a well stocked ipod crossed with crack/nicotine. Who's great idea was this? How is anyone supposed to get anything done?
IN-STORE CONCERTS COMING UP
After killing it at his slamtastic CD release at the Horseshoe Tavern, Justin Rutledge and the Junction Forty bring a little love to the east siiiide this Tuesday (as in TODAY...Oct 17). Join us at the Six Shooter Gallery for a free in-store concert at 7 pm. Justin's show kicks off an official triple-whammy of concerts in one week at our little store...next up is The Cape May, an absolutely amazing act on Flemish Eye in Calgary on Saturday, Oct 21 @ 2:30 pm, and then Mint Recording artists The Awkward Stage from Vancouver (featuring members from the New Pornographers) on Tuesday, October 24 @ 7 pm. Yep, that is indeed three whammies! All concerts are free...don't miss out!
This week's in-stores will also feature an appearance by celebrity soundguy John Rubuliak. Ruby, as he's commonly known, will surely stun the crowd with his amazing multi-tasking abilities as he simultaneously mixes live sound and bums smokes off of anyone within 5 feet of him. That's some raw Edmo talent right thurr boyee!
For those of you who would like to reminisce about the beautiful Lily Frost and her in-store concert recently, you can check out photos at: http://TorontoLiveClubHub.com/Chronicles/chronicles.html.
SIX SHOOTER GALLERY
Heather Goodchild's "Fairest Among Thousands, Altogether Lovely" show opened with the most sparkly reception we've had since our Back Lot BBQ, and the show itself is indeed lovely. Those in Toronto have until Sunday to take it in... prints are $150.
Up next, Beverley Hawksley dresses for the weather and starts putting some clothes on her usually stark subjects. Don't miss the opening night for her upcoming exhibit, "Candor" on Friday, October 27 at 7 pm. We are looking for volunteers to help out with this event... anyone willing to don one of Beverley's handmade creations for the evening should contact shauna@sixshooterrecords.com.
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
In more gallery news, we are putting out a call for submissions for our show running in December, the show will likely be titled "Wax & Wood", although we have been tossing around the more streetwise "Vinyltarded", cheeseball entry "groovey acoustics", and the quite literal "records and guitars with paint on 'em". This show will surprisingly feature works of art painted on old vinyl records and acoustic guitars. Art made from other music-related items are also welcome, ie, compact discs, guitar strings, nose-whistles, egg shakers, etc. The exhibit will open December 7. Get your crafty on, you awesome artist types.
We are also setting up our 2007 schedule in the gallery, so artists interested in exhibiting solo or group shows should contact shauna@sixshooterrecords.com.
SIX SHOOTER USA LAUNCHES LUKE & CHRISTINE
Our new friends at Red Eye Distribution have been hard at work to get Six Shooter CDs in the stores south of the border. Starting things off with Luke Doucet's "Broken (and other rogue states)", this re-launch features a never before released acoustic EP entitled "Foke Star", which includes the awesome track, "Long Haul Driver" that you might have heard him perform at recent shows in Toronto or Nashville. The bonus disc has also been getting good response from Pepsi fans, so really we're covering all the bases. You know how we do.
To celebrate life, Luke kicks of the first of three residencies today in New York City. Up next are week-long runs in Chicago and Los Angeles. See tour dates for details. Homie has Amurrica on lock son.
Christine Fellows' fabu disc, "Paper Anniversary", hits the stores November 14. New Yorkers can also take in a Christine Fellows performance at CMJ at the Rockwood Music Hall on November 3. Christine will be joined by the equally fabu Leanne Zacharias on cello, and they'll be reprising their magical show performed in front of two sold out Bowery Ballroom shows recently with the Mountain Goats. Of course by magical we mean it was totally dope, not that they pulled bunnies out of top hats... but you probably knew that right?
SHOUT OUT OUT OUT OUT HIT NYC & TORONTO
Good thing our Shoutset boys scored some new jeans (thanks MX!) in Montreal on their bumpin' tour with Holy Fuck and Land of Talk last month since too many scissor-kicks had our own Nik7 hurtin' for un-split pants after the very first show. Dude's jeans totally exploded in Kingston! The tour was amazing, thanks to everyone who came out to the shows. Apparently Canada loves a good dance party. Shout out out out out leaves the comforts of home for another trek across the TransCanada once again later this month. First up is a killer 4-show schedule at the CMJ Music Marathon in NYC, followed by a short tour of Montreal/Ontario/Chicago (see tour dates below). SO4 has been ripping up the airwaves lately too, charting on CMJ, Earshot, and CHART charts, as well as holding down the number #1 spot on the CBC Radio 3 top 30! Holla!
VALERY GORE SAYS "YO" TO TOKYO
Our own Valery Gore will be turning heads in Japan next month with a string of four ivory ticklin' shows in Tokyo (see tour dates for deets). If anyone wants her to bring back some underwear from a vending machine, give us a holla.
WOO HOO FOR ELI KLEIN
The girls in the Six Shooter office are jumping for joy that Eli Klein will be joining the ranks at long last. We have been watching him from afar for quite some time now... Eli started promoting all-ages punk rock gigs at the tender age of 15, and now with years of experience under his belt in the trenches of the remarkably strong Edmonton scene, he's poised to makes some noise in Toronto. Ok, basically we stole him from Edmonton when they weren't looking, but we are over the moon that Eli will be making Six Shooter his new home. Hooray! Call him here on Oct 23 at 416-465-2459 to welcome him to his new digs. We hear he likes heavy breathing.
NEW LUKE DOUCET VIDEO FOR "FREE"
We were just thrilled with the video that our Los Angeles compadre Luke Hutton made (on the freebie tip) for Luke Doucet's song 'Wallow', and holy cow, give the man a tiny budget and watch him make a masterpiece! That is exactly what he's done (with the help of Videofact) for the Luke's song 'Free'. The video flows like an episode of Six Feet Under or something, and yes that means Luke dies in it. Is that what they call a "spoiler"? Sorry suckas! Check out this beautiful work here: http://www.lukedoucet.com/luke/music/free.html.
LUKE DOUCET FEATURED ON XM LIVE COMPILATION
On October 31, our good friends at XM 52 "The Verge" are releasing a compilation of live tracks recorded in their studios. Check it out and listen for an acoustic version of "Broken One" by Luke Doucet. It's a beauty. Hopefully given the date, you will be sitting there in your pumpkin suit and black nailpolish while you listen. Har har, I like that visual, it makes me larf.
UPCOMING SIX SHOOTER EUROPE RELEASES
Our friends at Bertus in Benelux (a place which we have long declared is its own country, and a benevolently deluxe one at that) are itchin' to get more Six Shooter titles out thurr, so they are going to be givin'er all autumn long. NQ Arbuckle's "Last Supper in a Cheap Town" comes out Oct. 31, Captain Tractor's "North of the Yellowhead" hits the streets on Nov. 7, Ford Pier's "Pier-ic Victory" on Nov 14, both Martin Tielli discs cross the Atlantic on Nov 21. I do believe the proper term is "booyakasha".
Fashion note: In Benelux they dress "Euro", it's true!
DAVE BIDINI LIVES ON-LINE
Check out www.davebidini.ca , the beautylicious new site designed by James Mireau and Michael Evans (aka Lil' Mikey Evz), our good friends and webmasters for the Rheostatics and Martin Tielli. Dave's new site features all kinds of juicy nuggs about upcoming gigs, readings, books, recordings, and more. In fact, he is traveling around the country right this very second (he's really fast... whole country in one second... get it?), so you should immediately visit tha new site to find out where you can meet up for doppio espressos and ginger bread. Or whatever.
