Ok, what in the heck is wrong with me? I bought some new sneakers today, and it took me over an hour to lace them up (I wish I was kidding or exaggerating). I think they look kinda fresh now, but geez, obsess much? Maybe this is why I've worn nothing but slip-ons for the past few years.

SHOUT OUT OUT OUT OUT RELEASE ALBUM!

Today is the day! Eeeek! "Not Saying / Just Saying," the electro-rocking debut album from 780 hometown heroes Shout Out Out Out Out is finally in stores as of... well, right now. We are kind of totally freaking out about this one, and judging by the first crop of reviews, so is everyone else! Two drummers, four bass players, a billion synthesizers and samplers, and vocoder vocals that robotically juxtapose a world full of self loathing, debt, poor architectural decisions, and distressed denim against a total freakin' dance party! Awesome dog is awesome!

CAROLYN MARK IN-STORE

Victoria's queen of lipstick, wisecracks, and sleeping on barstools brings her own special brew of fun to our store at 1118 Queen Street East, tonight (Tuesday, July 25) at 7 pm. Refreshments served, possibly even Fresca, which has recently been proven to be the king of diet soda (and apparently quite tasty when spiked with gin). So yeah, come on by and help us carry a giant outrageously heavy wall around the block... oh wait, we already suckered someone else into doing that! Instead I guess you could stop by, crack a cold one, kick back, and enjoy some lurvely live music. We are very pleased that Carolyn will be the special guest of our inaugural in-store performance, a tradition we plan to host every Tuesday night for Queen Street Easters. If you close your eyes and pretend that you are from Carolyn's hometown, you may even be transported to a li'l, fantasy world that I like to call Queen Easter Island. Yes, I am succumbing to my paronomasia (look it up). Bring Tiki Torches!

MICHAEL PHILLIP 4-STAR MIXER/PRODUCER

It was a banner week for our own MPW, who raised his proverbial snorkel up for air from the Kurt Swinghammer record he's working on right now to read some great ink on some of his recent projects. On the same page of the NNNN review in NOW Magazine of the Wojewoda-mixed Shout Out Out Out Out record appears another NNNN review of our friend Kevin Hearn's record, produced by Michael Phillip Wojewoda. Well gee, do all them thar four-N reviews make MP Dubz foreign? How Exotique! In any case, dude is making some bitchin' reckids!

ELLIOTT BROOD + CORB LUND

Hot off the (all-natural, non-pharmaceutical) high of opening for Wilco out west, Elliott Brood is pleased to announce they'll be supporting the newly double-gold record touting Corb Lund across the country in the fall. Corb is from Alberta, which rumour has it, is wayyyy more fun than tying your shoes for an hour! Stay tuned for dates!

AKA PURPLE, AKA LEAN

Whoa! Who knew that our readers were as hyphy as they are crunk?! We had to throw on our stunna shades to shield ourselves from the overwhelming onslaught of entries in our "sippin' on a sizzurp while ghost ridin' da whip" contest. After some very difficult deliberation, we have determined that the most ghetto fabulous entry came from our homie Charles Whaley. Congratulations!

For our next contest, I am looking for the most convincing argument that those fries would taste better if you put them inside that piece of haddock. Of course, by fries I mean macaroni, and by haddock I mean ciabatta, but please use the above terminology.

amore,
