BACK LOT BBQ ROUND-UP
We are just now recovering from our smash grand opening of the store/gallery on June 10 during NXNE. Who knew that coleslaw would leave us with such a wicked hangover? Many thanks to Ford Pier for hosting the stage, which featured performances from Oh Susanna, Selina Martin, NQ Arbuckle, Mia Sheard, Lindy, Luke Doucet, Melissa McClelland, Valery Gore, Nathan Coles Outfit, Jenn Foster and Ford himself. We are so thrilled that Martin Tielli’s beautiful art graces our walls, and pleased as (spiked) punch with the response from friends and neighbours to our new store. Hats off to XM Satellite Radio and Amsterdam Brewing for sponsoring our event (beeeeer!). We’ll be back next year even bigger and better (including porta-potties! Yay!). Meanwhile, check out the photos at sixshooterrecords.com, and check out the store/gallery at 1118 Queen St. E., Toronto.
MARTIN TIELLI IN RESIDENCE
What could be more exciting than watching paint dry? Watching a painting get wet! That, and watching grass un-grow. Hmm, that almost made sense in my head. Anyway, Martin Tielli is the type of dude that is never done tweaking his creations. He’s kind of on the obsessive tip when it comes to artistic venturing (he has to pack a lot of proverbial energy bars on his proverbial hikes through the artistic mountains of life. dig?). So yeah, that’s why he’s still re-writing songs that were recorded a decade ago, and adding finishing touches to paintings already proclaimed finished. Join him live in our gallery on Wed July 12 & Thurs July 13 where you can watch Martin paint and talk to him about his work. It’ll be kind of like that tv show where the dude with the big ‘fro would tell you how to paint trees with a sponge while talking in the most soothingly hypnotic relaxed tone. Word. Refreshments will be served (6pm - 9 pm each night). These will be non-proverbial refreshments. Of course.
MARTIN TIELLI LEADS THE SIX SHOOTER JAMBOREE IN LONDON, ON
Martin is going to brave the stage for one of his first solo shows in two years on July 8 in London, ON at the Aeolian Hall. His set caps off an evening with performances by labelmates Ford Pier, NQ Arbuckle, Luke Doucet, and Elliott Brood. Now that’s a line up! Anyone who has seen Martin perform solo before knows that this will be totally slamtastic and amazing. Tix available at sixshooterrecords.com
MARTIN TIELLI STEADY POPPIN' IN THE STRANGEST OF PLACES
Speaking of Martin, which we were just up above this (in case you already forgot), you might be interested to know that the first Art of Time CD is available for sale in our store and also at maplemusic.com. Four of the eight tracks on the compilation feature some hot sing-y action from Mr. Tielli interpreting Jacques Brel and Arnold Schoenberg. On an arachnid note, we just learned that the Black Widow production he starred in with Sarah Slean and Mary Margaret O’Hara recently won a Czech Crystal, the top award in the Category of Music or Dance Programs Made for Television, at the 43rd International Television Festival Golden Prague Competition. I know that kind of sounds made up, but it’s totally not!
FESTIVAL SUMMER
We just LOVE festival season. Sunburns and acceptable daytime drinking? We’ll take it! This year is particularly exciting with the presentation of ‘Shadow Songs’, a collaboration by Christine Fellows & projectionist Shary Boyle. Check out the tour dates section below for all the deets, as well as notes on festival performances by Elliott Brood, Luke Doucet, Justin Rutledge, NQ Arbuckle, and Shout out out out out.
NOT SAYING/JUST SAYING
Start the count-down! The brand new debut full-length album from SHOUT OUT OUT OUT OUT will hit the streets in less than one month from now. Yeeeeek! ‘Not Saying / Just Saying’ features 9 brand new tracks from the Edmonton dancey-pantses, and features karazee drawings by Mr. Chad Vangaalen. Ooooh, it’s so good, y’all are gonna have a freakout when you get your mitts on this one. Shout out out out out will be getting themselves warmed up for the release by slamming out a few shows in NYC and Toronto. Check tha tour dates belowski for more infoski.
In other Shout out out out out news, frontman and Edmonton-enthusiast Nik Kozub was recently recognized at The Mayor’s Evening For The Arts awards show in, um, Edmonton! Yep, Nik received the ‘Emerging Artist’ award sponsored by Enbridge. I guess that’s what you get for electro-rocking across Canada with the Edmonton area code tattooed on your arm. Nik was so thrilled that he got his first haircut in three years to celebrate. He used all the hair clippings to make the world’s largest fake moustache. No, not really, that would be gross.
LUKE & JUSTIN FOR PREZ
Maybe all those video shoots we did will count for something... cast your vote for our boys at www.muchmoremusic.com/top10/ where both Luke Doucet and Justin Rutledge are up for this pick-your-own top ten playlist thingamabobber, where MMM compile the picks and the top ones get played 7pm & 11pm ET Monday - Thursday and 7pm ET Friday
C’mon, do it! Let’s clog up the airwaves with baby-faced handsomeness!
CONTEST
Nobody won the last contest. We are going to put last month’s prize in a cage at the crossroads as a warning to future contest hopefuls.
For this issue, we gonna get crunk wit’ it. The first (or most hilarious) person to send us a sentence (or short paragraph) which correctly uses both the terms ‘ghost ride the whip’ and ‘sippin’ on a sizzurp’, wins some ghetto fabulous Six Shooter stuff.
Scroll down for tour dates & title credit.
Awwwww yeah,
