--Six Shooter Bullets --
Feb. 2006, Vol. 03, No. 02
could you bring me back a cardinal from kentucky?
Welcome to our 5 step program:
Step 1: Junos
Step 2: CMW
Step 3: SXSW
Step 4: Tour dates (Luke in California, Elliott Brood in Europe, Justin in Ontario, Christine in the USA, and much more!)
Step 5: Win stuff!
Okayee, so when I started writing this I had just woken up and I wrote something like “hey, I just woke up”, and then I got busy and drank a billion cups of coffee and next thing I knew it was nightime and “hey, I just woke up” wasn't really true anymore, so I went to bed and when I woke up this morning I was all proud of myself because I had just woken up and the statement was true again, but now it’s the afternoon and I’ve had a billion cups of coffee and I am rather awake and have been for quite awhile. But heey!!!! We’ve got some exciting news for yooouuuu!!!
JUNO WHAT I’M TALKIN’ ‘BOUT?!
Holy geez guy! Last Wednesday they had a little press conference thingy that was all about who is awesome and stuff, and whaddya know?! It turns out Six Shooter is totally radical! That’s right, both Luke Doucet and Elliott Brood have been nominated for Juno Awards! That’s no nominal feat! Luke has been nominated in the Adult Alternative category (which is not a category based on latex catsuits so much as a category based on your Dad in a Nirvana t-shirt) alongside such heavyweights as Neil Young, Blue Rodeo, Kathleen Edwards, and The Low Millions. Elliott Brood are being recognized as awesome with a nomination for their debut full-length album, ‘Ambassador’, in the Roots/Traditional category, which is a category traditionally populated with roots.
Both Luke and Elliott Brood will perform at this year's JunoFest in Halifax. In addition to their official evening performance slots, country-punker NQ Arbuckle joins Elliott Brood + Luke for a smokin' triple bill at Sam the Record Man to complete your Six Shooter Records Juno Weekend Extravaganza. In other Juno activities, Luke "can you help me with my pads?" Doucet returns for another star turn at Juno Cup Hockey. We can only hope that he’ll score a touchdown or whatever.
CANADIAN MUSIC WEEEEEEK!
CMW is upon us yet again, oh how the fime tlies. Speaking of which, there is this one lyric on that new Madonna disco album that I hear every time as “Pobody’s Nerfect’. Maybe that’s just what I wish she sang.
My point being of course, that Six Shooter is very pearly nerfect, and you can see what we are talking about this year at our multitudinous CMW showcase appearances:
Shout out out out out plans to whip everyone into a dancing frenzy at the Eye showcase at Lee’s Palace on Thursday night with fellow dancey-pantses Holy Fuck.
Justin Rutledge and Luke Doucet will drench themselves in reverb at the Reverb for the Export-Ready series on Friday night.
Whitey Houston rocks the Chart showcase at the Horseshoe Tavern on Friday night at 1 am. Gravy has been mumbling something about smashy-smash for a couple weeks now.
To top it all off, Elliott Brood brings down the ‘Shoe the following night at 10 pm. Oh yeah, and speaking of the Brood, brood on this: Elliott Brood are also performing at the Indie Awards March 1 at The Docks where they have been nominated for the Galaxie Rising Star award! Luke has also been nominated for “Favourite Solo Artist”! We don’t know how these awards are figured out, but we heard somewhere that some dude in an office picks all the nominees based on we’re not sure what. So basically, this means that this one dude with a bunch of awards likes our dudes and wants to share his awards! He is independently handing out awards! Indie Awards! Yay! And Ack! Awards and showcases! Awards and showcases!
OUR TEXAS SIZED PRESENCE AT SXSW
The Well gee, I am noticing a pattern here. It would seem that we here at Six Shooter central are more crazy about festival showcases than K-Fed is about Popo Zao. Not only are we rocking showcases for individual artists (including our own zinger of a label showcase), but our artists are also making the performance rounds at a whole bunch of parties throughout the weekend. Maximum raditude! We are even going to throw our own party with Vancouver’s Mint Records! Yayyyyy! Bring on the BBQ!!!

Contestualized
So, the winner of our last contest, in which we asked you wonderful readers to advise us on the bizarre and highly evolved fashion habits of our neighbours to the south, is Margot Stothers! Margot gave us some valuable advice on the difference between slippers, platform slippers, and flip-flops, and when to wear each whilst visiting Honolulu. I’m sure that I will have plenty of opportunities to put that advice to use. Margot, please peruse the Six Shooter webstore and give us your top picks of fifty bucks worth of stuff and we will send it along.
How about this for a new contest: Whoever can send us the most convincing paragraph about why K-Fed’s Popo Zao is actually about Six Shooter, rather than getting one’s booty on the dancefloor, will win some sort of awesome carnage. woo!
ok, see you at various awards and showcases...
