SIX SHOOTER NEW RELEASES

We are freaking out like the wolf over here about just how good our next two records are: Luke Doucet's "Broken" (street date Sept. 20) and Elliott Brood's "Ambassador" (street date Oct. 4) are both sitting here in our office, with bright, shiny new shrink wrap, waiting to be unleashed onto the world. We are salivating...but I suppose that's mostly because we are wearing hats with sticks attached to them that dangle tasty cups of poutine in front of our eyes, just barely out of reach. Oh cruel world, why must you tempt us so?! Back to the topic at hand, the Elliott Brood CD has some rad kooky packaging that even includes a ticket to ride the awesome train and this blueprinty type thing, and both albums are mind numbingly fantastico. My mind is actually numb...that explains a lot.

New releases come hand in hand with a whackload of tour dates (see below for deets). And don't miss the Exclaim! tour this fall which will feature Luke Doucet with friends The FemBots, Whitey Houston, and Shout Out Out Out Out (they are mega dancey-pantses that play dance music).

LUKE DOUCET HITS THE UK/EUROPE

I am jealous. Luke Doucet returns to the UK, and this time it's for more than just a pit stop in London. From there he is going to have a hangover in Hannover, act like a wiener in Frankfurt, and rev up his dude engine in Dudingen. I have to stay here in my basement apartment, while he runs amok across exciting foreign lands. He has this song on his new album that is called something like "If I talk about rad places in my songs, it's just because I'm awesome and you're a total lamer". Gee thanks for rubbing it in Luke, maybe I should start an emo band named after that song (I think it has enough syllables to warrant emo-band-name). We'll have one guy who sings all wimpy style, and one guy who screams all angsty-tough-guy style, and it'll be totally original and awesome. Of course, Luke will miss the whole thing because he'll be prancing around Europe with a flower in his hair. Lucky jerk. Once again, see the "Tour Dates" section below if you want to check out all the awesome places Luke will be visiting as I go about my daily routine.

CHRISTINE FELLOWS: MORE WESTERN THAN AN OMELETTE

Our stunning and gifted pal Christine Fellows saddles up and heads west tomorrow! With her helluva beauty band consisting of Jason Tait, Greg Smith, and Leanne Zacharias, she hits a number of sunny locales in Alberta & BC (see tour dates for schmeetails) to promote her zinger of a disc, "Paper Anniversary". Damn, I really hope Alberta is sunny, Edmonton has had a pretty crappy summer. Please Winnipeggers, take your sunshiny posie vibes to Edmonton, they need some loving over there. I know this kid who bought a bunch of hacky-sack things on ebay that light up when you, um, "hack" 'em, and now he is selling them to his friends for a huge profit. Can you believe that? Give Donald Trump a TV show and next thing you know childhood no longer exists. Maybe Christine can hammer out a little ditty on her piano about the dire state of elementary school capitalism.

RHEOSTATICS ARE MODERNISTS

The Rheostatics have been busy little bees of late. With Martin Tielli working obsessively on his honeycomb... I mean, subscription series (now 2 years late! Yay!), and dabbling in musical-film-noir type dealies (with Sarah Slean and Mary Margaret O'Hara no less...see www.blackwidowfilm.com for details and upcoming western Canadian screening info), Tim Vesely launching a new disc, "The End of Part One" with his band, The Violet Archers, MPW (aka MP-Widdy, which will eventually be shortened to just Widdy) slaving away in the studio on multitudinous projects such as Kevin Hearn's next masterpiece, and Dave Bidini about to launch his fifth (!) book (entitled "The Best Game You Can Name"...see tour dates for book launch events across the country), there has been little time for getting together and rockin' a sweet jam sesh with Canada's favourite band. But for those of you in Toronto, wait no more. The Rheostatics hit the Mod Club on September 10, and just to see what it's like to start playing before midnight, they decided on an early show. Doors at 7 pm, Rheostatics on at 8 pm, tickets available at sixshooterrecords.com.

Watch for more Canadian dates in November and the Horseshoe Tavern run in December.

JUSTIN LOVES DOLLY

Thanks to the hard work of miracle worker Rob Zifarelli, our boy Justin Rutledge landed an opening slot at the recent Dolly Parton show (see sixshooterrecords.com for pics, and notice how Dolly has perfected the art of the photo face)! Apparently Dolly's review of Justin's set went something like this: "That sounded real nice from the bus!". I guess that'' better than sounding real bad from the bus? I wonder if he looked real handsome from the bus, too?

VALERY GORE MAKES VIDEO DEBUT

Hit up all your fave video website stops (including yours truly at sixshooterrecords.com) to check out Valery in her brand new video for "Dancing ". I finally watched that web video of that kid doing his Star Wars routine. How did that thing get so popular? I mean, it's funny and all, but it's certainly no mustard-arm! Valery's video, on the other hand, is even better than mustard-arm. You heard it here first. Why are you looking at me like that?

CONTEST

The winner of "The Great Dill Caper" contest is Ashley Speer, whose simple caper-dill-butter best fit the contest criteria. We had a few entries that were disqualified because they were too fancy-pants, thus irrelevant to the broke-ass inspiration for the contest in the first place, and a few that were disqualified for their inclusion of fish (not vegetarian). I suppose I was really looking for something along the lines of hashbrowns with capers and dill served in a hot dog bun, which is a creation that I actually survived on for a couple days last month. This month I am still broke, but more on the onion tip. A couple of wednesdays ago I actually ate six entire onions in one day, and I think my total for the month is over 15. There are these people at my local farmer's market that sell big bags of vegetables for super cheap, and lately the bags have been pretty heavy on the onions, and who am I to waste? Ok, so, I don't really know how to refer to the vegetable vendors, but I'd like to know, so this month's contest is as follows: The first person to clarify the difference between Hutterites, Mennonites, and straight up Amish wins a bag of onions, or some other Six Shooter prize of equally fabulous value. We will also accept entries of undeniable proof that you have consumed more than 6 onions in one day, thus out-onioning the onion master...that being me.
