Contests. We build smiles.
I bought my dream shoes the other day. Seriously, we are talking about some beauty kicks.
MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE WITH VALERY GORE
We are like totally hella stoked that VALERY GORE's self-titled debut hit the streets just YESTERDAY. Of course, in "the biz", when we say "hit the streets", we mean "available in stores", because if we really spread all those hot li'l units out on the actual streets it would create a shiny solar panel so powerful that it would melt Pluto (the planet, not the dog). Has anyone seen those new toasters that have little spaces for two hot dogs? That is pure genius. Future now. Kind of. Valery's official CD launch is at the Supermarket (just south of College on Augusta in Kensington Market) in Toronto on May 5th with special guest ROYAL WOOD. I get royal wood just thinking about it. haha.
THINK DIFFERENT, THINK THE FLOOR.
Eeeeeek! In the last newsletter we told y'all that we are now working in association with Edmonton electronic/new wave/ synthy madness label NORMALS WELCOME RECORDS (headed up by Veal's Nik Kozub and his co-conspirator Jaycie Jayce Troock). Now our pals over at Nrmls Wlcm Records have announced an official date for the release of nrml 01! THE FLOOR's debut full length album "Personnel" is due to melt Pluto on May 24th. The label is launching with a couple of giant cd release parties in Edmonton and Calgary (see tour dates below). The Floor are new wave perfection. As cold and dark as an Edmonton winter, while remaining as melodic and danceable as a hot Edmonton summer. The buzz circulating around these guys is very exciting. Watch for full Canadian tour dates in July, as well as a 12" full of remixes around the same time. Nrmls Wlcm will also be releasing a 12" single by electro-rockers SHOUT OUT OUT OUT OUT out early this summer, with a full-length album to follow i n the fall. Woo!
SIX SHOOTER IN GERMANY/BENELUX, CREATED BY NATURE.
Hooray in German! (use your imagination people. What am I, a translator or a newsletter generating program created by the people who brought you the sloganizer?)! We have now finalized our agreements with two bitchin' European companies: CARGO in Germany and BERTUS in Benelux, which is a new country in Europe that only the cool kids know about. You'll notice that we totally know about it (thus securing our place as cool kids). I even have a mid to high level Beneluxish vocabulary and a working knowledge of Beneluxian folk-dance. First out of the gate will be the fine fillies known as NQ ARBUCKLE's debut, Hanging the Battle-Scarred Pinata, and both LUKE DOUCET solo albums: Aloha, Manitoba and Outlaws. I read Luke's blog the other day. It was funny. Anyway, what we are getting at is that you can now find Six Shooter releases in all those countries that make good beer.
I WISH I WAS A CHRISTINE FELLOWS AND JOHN K SAMSON.
Winnipeg dream team of CHRISTINE FELLOWS and Weakerthans' JOHN K. SAMSON have created a score for a new work by choreographer SUSIE BURPEE of Toronto's Dancemakers. The score is one-nothing for Susie. They also wrote some music for Susie B which I understand is fantastic, but I haven't heard it yet because that joint doesn't drop until the piece's premiere at the Metamorphoses Festival May 10-20 at Harbourfront Centre in Toronto. It's a slammin' disco number except for the disco part. What I mean to say is...slammin'!!! Yeah!
NOTHING IS FASTER THAN CYBERCELEBS.
For those of you with PC's (we’re all whiney mac babies over here in six shooter land. "Why doesn't my ibook screen work right, wah wah" etc.), check out NQ ARBUCKLE and LUKE DOUCET being famous on Puretracks where their celebrity skin, err... I mean playlists are now available. Hott. Oh, and speaking of cybercelebrity, CHRISTINE FELLOW's digital single for her stunning song, "Vertebrae" is being launched on digital download sites all over the world (the world we call Canada, that is) on May 17th.
FAILED EXPERIMENT OF THE MONTH
Ok. So I like grated carrots, but I hate grating carrots. I find it grating, no pun intended (ok fine it was totally intended). I was making soup the other day, and I wanted to rock out on a grated carrot tip without the agony of actually shredding those li'l pukes. Enter one brilliant idea: use the garlic press. It seems like it would work right? I chopped the orange bastards into garlic sized chunks, and gave 'em my best squeeze. End result: I hurt my hand, it didn't work at all (no carrots squished out the other end), the garlic press got all bunged up and was a pain to clean, and I skinned my finger trying to grate the little nubs that were left over. All in all a very successful failed experiment.

Contests - enjoy the difference.
The winner of the "my mac is broken...whyyyyyyyyy?" contest is TOM HIDDERLY. A lot of people responded, and pretty much everyone diagnosed the problem in the same way then said "yeah, you're screwed, I hope you have applecare", but Tom was the first person to rub it in so he wins. No I don't have applecare, thanks a lot people.
The winner of the Captain Tractor entries is the sloganizer. Ok, fine, "Wake up to a Yellowhead" is probably not that appropriate for a beer ad.
The real winner, and only slightly more (or less) appropriate entry goes to David Chapman's "It doesn't come in a supercan, but you'll get hosed!', which might actually get censored to "pour me another". In any case, that guy wins.
Be young, have fun, taste beauty on,
Six Shooter kids klub
