SIX SHOOTER AT NXNE

Eeeeek!!! It is finally North By Northeast time again here in Toronto and we are totally freaking out like the wolf! Seriously though, we have the most ill-snickety stuff happening at this year's nxne festival. It's so exciting that all of us here at Six Shooter headquarters are going on the South Beach diet to get ready for the big weekend. That's the one where you eat nothing but waffles right?

Our main dealie is centered around the Six Shooter Records official showcase at the Horseshoe Tavern (368 Queen St. W), on June 9th. We just got all of our awesome new merch back from the merch making place, and we are just dying to give it away, so we will be handing out a ton of prizes to those clever enough to be in attendance.

CHRISTINE FELLOWS' PAPER ANNIVERSARY

Glockenspiel. Sorry, I just had to get that out...I don't think I've ever typed glockenspiel before...it's quite liberating. Ahem, many moons ago a hermitous shaman accidentally left his pulp out in the sun too long and paper was magically invented. Since then it has been used not only for airplanes, but everything from party hats to lotion-infused tissue. To commemorate this momentous event which inevitably changed the path of humanity, our very own Christine Fellows is releasing her stunning new album "Paper Anniversary" on June 7th. That's tomorrow! It's a beautiful album and you should all get it. Oh, and it's not actually about the invention of paper, I was just pullin' yer chain, haw haw!

Speaking of Christine Fellows, be sure to pick up tickets for her June 27th show at The 360 in Toronto with John K. Samson (of The Weakerthans) and Bryan Webb (of The Constantines) which are now available at www.ticketmaster.ca, www.sixshooterrecords.com webstore, Rotate This and Soundscapes for $10. That is a crazy awesome lineup! Gadzooks!

CHRIS WYNTERS LAUNCHES SKYWRITING

This one time I was hanging out with Mr. Chris Wynters and we accidentally emptied an entire can of WD-40 inside the van (it got wedged in the door). It was gross. We also accidentally put gas in the diesel tank and wound up learning a rather silly card game called "the earl of Coventry". yep.

Chris Wynters plays in Captain Tractor, and he also plays with himself...music that is. His new album is called Skywriting, and I am told that it contains both "musings" and references to England, home of Marmite. Chris wore all kinds of hats while making this album including his co-producer hat (Jameslex Murdoch wore one of those too), the singy-strummy hat, the co-engineer hat (Jameslex Murdoch wore one of those too), and the co-mastering guy hat (Jameslex Murdoch wore one of those too). The only person who got to wear the mixing hat was John Whynot, 'cause hey, why not?

Skywriting is out on June 28!

yaaaay!

NORMALS WELCOME RECORDS ON A NO VOWEL TIP

Has anyone ever tried brewing coffee with cilantro in it? I have really been meaning to try that, I think it would be delicious. I was chowing down on this rockin' South Beach sandwich that was chock full of cilantro (authentic south beach styles) and I was mackin' on a double espresso (as I tend to do) and I daresay the flavours complimented each other rather nicely. I'm not sayin' I'm just sayin'.

Soooo, our brand new dancey-pants affiliates Nmrls Wlm Records are now in full swing. The label threw its wildly successful Alberta launch parties a couple months ago, released The Floor's new album "Personnel", and will be throwing themselves all over the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto on Thursday for their big ol' NXNE label launch. Both The Floor and electro rockers Shout out out out out (two drummers, four bass players, and a ton of synthesizers) will be performing. oh my.

Do check out the Nrmls Wlcm Rcrds website. It was made with ballpoint pens. Any of the following degrees of vowel saturation will work, so take your pick:

RHEOSTATICS

I don't have anything funny to say about Rheostatics. They are serious business.

Rheostatics join friends Raising the Fawn, Joel Plaskett, Hawksley Workman, Royal City, Great Lake Swimmers, the Inbreds, and more on a compilation for Reach for the Rainbow.  Check the Rheostar version of Soul Glue. www.reach.on.ca.

In other Rheostatics news, the video for the Tarleks won a Gold Award for Music Video Production at the 2005 Worldfest-Huston Awards. www.worldfest.org/mainframe.htm

not funny.
