DIGITAL LOVE.

I know in the past we've mentioned how all these crazy kids are embracing the future and becoming downloading robots, but I think that we can now safely say that we are over the initial shock and are totally down with the zeros and ones. You can now download our entire catalogue from our webstore. Yeah, you heard me, we've got your mouse on perma-click. We have also decided to go back to junior high and have jumped on to that myspace.com bandwagon and sprouted up a number of pages for six shooter types there. It's just a matter of time before we become post-punk princesses with two-tone asymmetrical haircuts and distressed denim. Maybe I'm not ready for this future thing after all...

VIDEORAMA.

For a label who doesn't have a lot of videos in our repertoire, we sure are making up for lost time. Luke Doucet shoots a video for "Broken One" in September, NQ Arbuckle shoots one for "Sun's Hanging Low", Christine Fellows and her Winnipeg posse are gearing up for a video for "Vertebrae", Justin Rutledge is making one for "The Suffering of Pepe O'Malley Part III", and Valery Gore just wowed the monster Soft Citizen crew while working on a video for "Dancing". Elliott Brood is actually working on two videos...one for a song from their EP, Tin Type (Weewerk), and an animated one for "Second Son" from their Six Shooter debut, "Ambassador". And rumour has it that Martin Tielli has done a video for "Cold Blooded Old Times", but I haven't even seen it yet. Hmmm, curious. Anyway, chances are slim that you'll get to see any of these on MuchMusic, since none of them have nearly enough booty in them for their booty-lovin' demographic. Note to self: write more booty into Six Shoo ter video scripts...oh, and bling, lots and lots of icy bling. Maybe we'll throw our very own film festival once all the cameras stop rolling.

Watch for new albums this fall by Luke Doucet: "Broken (and other rogue states)"; and Elliott Brood: "Ambassador". Both of these albums are so completely unbelievably awesome that I think I might just explode. or pee.

FESTIVAL RECAP.

It has been a great festival season so far. Errk, something about that term "Festival Season" makes my skin crawl, I wonder why that is. In any case, the Six Shooter posse was on the festival prowl, check these highlights: Justin spilled his Rutledging heart out to a journalist for the cover story in FFWD in Calgary, where he met Jeff Tweedy, who helped him button up his cardigan sweater properly (finally! we've been too shy to tell him that he's been doing it wrong all these years). Ford Pier joined Broken Social Scene's band for a bit, but ended the weekend even more dramatically by fainting due to dehydration because he drank all of Arcade Fire's beer. Speaking of which, what is with all these companies making bottled water sweetened with sucralose or whatever? That stuff is so gross, I'd rather pull a Ford Pier than drink it. The Weakerthans win the award for playing the most festivals this summer, and the Rheostatics' performance in Winnipeg inspired a rowdy blogfe st (not as gross as it sounds, it's an internerd thing). Oh, and NQ Arbuckle figured out rather quickly that there is a big difference between pot smokers and whiskey drinkers (duuuuuuuude). Sleeper hit of the summer, though, has to be Luke's daughter Chloe, who raised the roof (sky?) at every festival they played with a duet of Gun St. Girl..she might only be nine, but man that girl has pipes, and she can cartwheel like nobody's business.

VEAL IN THE UK.

It was supposed to happen two years ago where we were going to take the UK by storm with Veal's amazing disc, Embattled Hearts. Sadly, we got lost in one of those silly record company break ups and the album has been in limbo ever since. Actually we have been doing the limbo ever since, you should see how low we can go! Anyway, we decided to cut out the middle man and release the Veal album ourselves so that all of the lovely Brits will finally be able to get their hands on this slammin' record and enjoy it over a tin of asparagus with marmite or whatever it is they eat over there.

12 INCHES OF SHOUT OUT OUT OUT OUT

Our cohorts over at Nrmls Wlcm Records are putting out their first slab of vinyl. The debut release from electro-rocking dance floor giants Shout Out Out Out Out is a 12" single that they will be releasing to the masses next week at two release shows with their pals Chromeo (Aug 16 in Edmonton, Aug 17 in Calgary). The record has two S.O.O.O.O. tracks, plus a remix courtesy of Berlin based Canadian ex-pat Mocky. Those of you who don't rock on the vinyl tip should really go out and buy a turntable for this one, or at least pick up the digital version of the tracks which will be released to all the download stores on August 23rd. Stay tuned for a whole schwack of tour dates for the Shout Out boys this fall. Check out www.nrmlswlcmrcrds.com.

RHEOSTATIC PART TWO

Tim Vesely's solo project, The Violet Archers, readies to release their debut CD, "The End of Part One", on Northern Electric on August 23rd. Watch for tour dates with Great Aunt Ida in September + October. Meanwhile, catch the Rheostatics in Toronto at the Mod Club on September 10th. Tickets available through www.sixshooterrecords.com.

SOUNDTRACK OF OUR WIVES

Yes, that is indeed the song, "Aside", by The Weakerthans that you hear during the end credits of the summer's largest comedy, The Wedding Crashers. This is the part where I mention some sort of pun laden anecdote in which the Weakerthans crash a wedding or something. Pretty hilarious hey? Am I really going to try to compete with the summer's largest comedy? Let me take you aside and say no, I realize that my level of humour is weaker than that of the wonderful screenwriters who put together this film and I will not crash their wedding of good times and good tunes. *shudder*

The Great Dill Caper... contest

Ok, so I am seriously on the broke tip this month and I have been eating pretty much nothing but dill and capers because that's all I have in my fridge. For example, my lunch today consisted of bucatini (still the reigning king of pastas) with dill and capers...not bad. Here is the contest: I am running out of ideas of ways to eat dill and capers, so whoever sends in the best recipe (ie. tastiest and most inventive) involving dill, capers, and not much else, wins a fabulous prize. Oh yeah, and the recipe has to be vegetarian, I don't dig on flesh. A screenplay for a short film entitled "The Great Dill Caper" will also be accepted as a valid entry, especially if accompanied by a recipe. yep.

Beauty on,
Six Shooter Posse
