NQ

NQ Arbuckle officially celebrates the launch of his sophomore CD, "Last Supper in a Cheap Town", this Thursday at the 360 in Toronto. I like a good veggie dog, but even fake street meat hurts my stomach. To help cheer ol' gravel-voice on, the Six Shooter gang will be out in droves, with a bunch of our artists playing a couple songs each to warm up the stage for NQ and his $10,000 band. Don't miss mini-sets by Ford Pier, Justin Rutledge, Valery Gore, and roster newcomers Elliott "we haven't announced 'em yet" Brood (oh my, did we say that out loud? Well I guess the cat is out of the bag, see below!).

ELLIOTT BROOD

Six Shooter couldn't be more pleased to welcome death country artists Elliott Brood to the posse. Bust out the corpse paint and banjos! We've never seen anyone giv'er on the ol' twangy-twang the way Mark Sasso does, who teams up with the brilliant (and hilarious) Casey Laforet on guitar and suitcase-kicking Steve Pitkin on drums. We've been courting this awesome trio for months now, and finally nailed down the gritty details the other night while macking down on some grilled cheese at Shanghai Cowgirl on Queen. Grilled cheese is the official sandwich of Six Shooter Records. Bucatini is the official pasta. Damn I love that stuff. Remember that for the quiz. Watch for the Elliot Brood's full-length debut this fall.

SX SHTR RCRDS WLCMS NRMLS WLCM RCRDS

Did anyone else watch that young hercules documentary thing the other night? That six year old kid was standing on a basketball with one foot while touching his nose with his other foot, all while flexing his super ripped abs. I wish! Speaking of which...we are especially proud to announce that we are now associated with a great new label from sunny Edmonton! Normals Welcome Records! Founded by our very dear Veal-bassist Nik Kozub, who has been operating (as a producer/engineer, promoter, dj, poster designer, musician, etc, etc) under the name nrmls wlcm for some time now , the new label will be specializing in new wave and electronic music (or whatever we call this stuff with the rock kids playing synthesizers). The label is co-headed by Nik's best bud Jason Troock. Jason and Nik enjoy bowling. Last week Jason bowled a 239, which is a big deal for those of you who don't know. The first release from these Edmonton cool kids is the full length debut from The Floor. Settl e down, we'll keep you posted. nrmls wlcm Rcrds, normals welcome records, nrmls wlcm records... whatevah, It's going to be a good year.

The following future speak must be dictated through a vocoder to have the proper impact:

CONTESTS

In the last newsletter we asked you to write a haiku detailing Six Shooter's global takeover. This was a very difficult contest to judge, we received some really great ones. In the end, we chose this one by Lina Scott/Evelyn Shift (it seems she has two names) because it is to the point, it ties in with our slogan, and it makes us sound super bad-ass (which we are):

The stars will foretell
of disaster that looms high
for nogood music

Yeah! What she said! Watch your back shitty music, we're coming to stomp ya!

speaking of haikus:

Is Justin Handsome?
Luke a baby faced phenom?
Nik Kozub says yes

The winning entry in the come-up-with-a-slogan-for-Captain-Tractor's-new-beer contest was:

"Man, Captain Tractor is like totally sweet! Let's get waaaasted!"

Unfortunately, we found out that this wonderful entry was submitted by a Six Shooter employee and it was promptly disqualified (we run a tight ship around here). Ok, well, what really happened was that all the entries we received for this contest sucked. Try harder. No offense. Until we receive a better slogan the official tag line will be:

"When we say Yellowhead, we don't mean a pus-filled zit!"

Our prior promise of prizes for the clever individual who comes up with something that won't gross out potential customers still stands.

New Contest : The first mac guru who can tell me why the display on my ibook shuts off if I open it more than a third of the way (thus making me endure the hardship of holding my laptop funny and looking like a total dork while I write this newsletter) and how to fix the problem by myself wins my gratitude and the Six Shooter album of their choice. Bonus points will be awarded if you can tell me why my trackpad sometimes freezes until I plug in a mouse. aaaargh.

Alternate Contest : Let's see just how smart you are. Whoever can draft up the most accurate Six Shooter family tree wins a fabulous prize. Who plays in which Six Shooter bands, and how are they connected? Dig?

So all in all, there are THREE contests you can win this month. Yay!

Beauty on down the road,
Six Shooter Posse

Title track: From "Delorla", track 5 from Valery Gore's epnomous debut.
