New video for Whitehorse’s take on Willie Dixon’s party anthem “Wang Dang Doodle” out now.
Long live the legacy of Chess Records.

Whitehorse celebrates the foundations of rock and roll in The Northern South Vol.1, a collection of songs that showcases the legendary artists who helped to shape modern sound. In celebration of the music and legacy of Chess Records (co-founder Phil Chess passed away last week), Whitehorse releases the final video from The Northern South Vol. 1. Watch “Wang Dang Doodle” shot live in the recording studio here.

“Willie Dixon’s contributions to the Blues and therefore, Rock and Roll, ARE hard to exaggerate. He wrote countless songs for the greats, including Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter and Bo Diddley. When we chose the songs for the Northern South, it was not our intent to dedicate half of the material on this album to his compositions but his work is so ubiquitous that an effort would be required NOT to represent him in a predominant way. Only after we researched writing credits did we realize what we had done.

Willie Dixon wasn’t simply a hit maker who offered easy palatable renditions of the narratives of the day. “Wang Dang Doodle” is the best example of his lyrical humour and bravery. His are among the more idiosyncratic lyrics in the Blues and Rock and Roll Cannon.” – Luke Doucet

“Tell Fats and Washboard Sam, that everybody gonna to jam
Tell Shaky and Boxcar Joe, we got sawdust on the floor
Tell Peg and Caroline Dye, we gonna have a heck of a time.
When the fish scent fill the air, there’ll be snuff juice everywhere
We gonna pitch a wang dang doodle all night long”
