Hit an indie record store near you to pick up vinyl copies of all of our latest releases: the excellent new album, Stars and Satellites by Trampled by Turtles, Deep Dark Woods’ fantastic Six Shooter debut, The Place I Left Behind, and the self-titled debut recording by Whitehorse. Also stay tuned for the vinyl release of Del Barber’s Headwaters…pre-orders available soon through our webstore. I love vinyl so much! The giant glorious artwork, the smell of fresh wax when you first pull your record from the sleeve, the pop of the needle when you drop it on that first groove, the opportunity to roll your eyes and shake your fist in the air when some dweeb says “they still make those things?”, being a record nerd is tha coolest!
We are so pleased to welcome officially the new album from Trampled By Turtles to the Six Shooter world! Yaaaa! It’s a chiefin’ beauty of a disc and we are proud that it bears our logo in the mystical frozen land of Canada. Fans of Palomino will find a lot to love on this record. The first single, “Alone,” is already winning hearts all over the continent.
This description from the folks at HearYa sums it up well: “The song starts as if it was casually put together on the porch. There isn’t that frenetic TxT energy that has helped define them over the years, but then the finish that comes in at 2:51 is majestic. It picks you up on the crest of a wave and takes you for a ride that leaves you breathless. I have listened to this track countless times and I don’t know how else to describe it other than magical or perfection or genius.” We hear ya, HearYa!
A video for “Alone” will be debuting soon in Canada – keep your eyes and ears peeled, as it will surely be a magical example of perfection and/or genius (you choose). We will be making our announcement about it shortly. Oh wait, we kinda just did… well, we will give you a holler when it actually drops so you can tune in to Video Hits, or Hulk Hogan’s Rock & Wrestling, or the internet, or whatever the music video thingy is called these days.
Congrats to the band on making such an amazing record, if the future was now, and we already all had three hands, we would give them a high fifteen. Stars and Satellites is available now on www.sixshooterrecords.com. Order through our webstore and receive a complimentary TxT button (and we don’t mean the keypad on your smartphone…LoL)!

You may have noticed at the end of the Whitehorse segment of this newsletter above, that I am now replacing the phrase “blow your mind” with “trample your turtle” in my day-to-day lexicon. Ok, maybe you didn’t notice until now, and you are about to scroll back up and re-read that part. Either way, this is big news. I like this new phrase for a few reasons, please allow me to run ’em down for you:
1. I like the visual I get of my brain being a turtle. Kind of like in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon (the turtle part of TMNT just hit me now, ignore that part), where that bad dude Krang sits inside a robot body, only, of course, in this case it’s a cute wrinkly turtle buddy, and he’s inside my head, and he’s always smiling with his cute little turtle mouth.
2. I like how this expression can also be used for frustration or displeasure. Ie. “you know what really tramples my turtle?! TRAFFIC!!”
3. Trampled By Turtles are totally a mind blowing (or rather turtle trampling) band, so alluding to them every time one’s turtle is trampled JUST MAKES SENSE.
For example, 3000 lucky Newport Folk Festival goers recently had their collective turtles completely trampled by Trampled By Turtles. Standing ovations (or “standing Os” as I like to call ’em) and sing-alongs led to a rare festival stage encore, where TxT delivered their take on the Pixies “Where Is My Mind,” which, while I’m sure it was intended as a rhetorical question, can easily be answered with “your turtle-y Pixie mind was just trampled!”
NPR was there and caught all the magic. Hear the entire freakin’ set here: http://www.npr.org.
Canadian tour dates have just been announced. See the frenzy for yourself at these fine establishments:
