Juno Nominations for Danny Michel and Amelia Curran

juno-awardsIn more exciting news, we are currently running victory laps around our office in celebration of Six Shooter earning two Juno Award nominations this year: one for Amelia Curran‘s “Spectators” in the category of Roots and Traditional (solo) Album of the Year, and the other for Danny Michel‘s “Black Birds are Dancing Over Me” in the category of World Music Album of the Year. I can already taste the victory, and it tastes like blooooood! The Juno Awards are being held in the city of Regina this year on the weekend of April 19-21.

Watch out for the now annual Outlaws and Gunslingers show during Junofest, held on Friday, April 19 at the Exchange, featuring Danny, Amelia, and at least a million other great artists in town for the festivities. I’m not sure if I’ve ever actually clarified this, but just to set your mind at ease, Outlaws and Gunslingers is just a wicked cool name we came up with…in fact, we ripped it off of an NQ Arbuckle song. We are actually friendly Canadians, and none of the artists who are performing are actually outlaws or gunslingers, in fact most of them have never even shoplifted a string cheese from the gas station or anything. For that matter, we think guns are kinda scary, and would probably kinda poop our pants if we ever came in contact with an actual six shooter! The secret is out, we are just big ol’ sweeties with hearts of gold, awwwww!! OR ARE WE?! Pew-pew-pew! (gun noise).

JUNOFEST MADNESS

Along with our pals at Starfish Entertainment, we are super stoked to be presenting an Outlaws & Gunslingers event at Junofest. The evening kicks off with former Juno Award winners and current nominees The Good Lovelies, who will delight and entertain. Next up are our live music superstars, The Beauties, who will play for three hours and have learned 28 songs in preparation for this event, where they welcome an incredible cast of Canadian talent to their stage. Guests include: Oh Susanna, Bazil Donovan, NQ Arbuckle, Wayne Petti, Jenn Grant, Dustin Bentall and Kendel Carson, Glenn Milchem, Devin Cuddy, Jim Cuddy, Daniel Romano, and members of the Sadies. Get there early…the venue, Mavericks, is not that big. Doors at 8 pm, show at 9 pm.

As if that wasn’t enough, we have a similarly great night planned for Saturday with a Six Shooter double header at the Live Lounge with Harlan Pepper and the Deep Dark Woods. Don’t miss these amazing bands!

Oh, and Juno Cup hockey! Cheer on our very own Luke Doucet, who will be tending goal for the musicians. What this actually means is that he will be blocking the puck from his own teammates. We couldn’t exactly pit him against the former NHL all-stars, now could we? He’s only 136 pounds, after all. In addition to Luke, about half the line up from the Outlaws and Gunslingers line up will also be donning their helmets and skates — Jim Cuddy, Devin Cuddy, Dustin Bentall, Kendel Carson, and more.

You might also catch a glimpse of us rolling out of our party bus and on to the red carpet on Sunday night. With three Juno Award nominated artists (Deep Dark Woods, The Good Lovelies, and Jenn Grant) there is a big crew of us ready to wreak havoc amid the rock-and-roll royalty mayhem. I personally am hoping to get to meet Captain Kirk. Wish us luck!

JENN GRANT @ CMW

Jenn Grant

Jenn is confirmed for a CMW appearance at Toronto’s Mod Club on Thursday, March 22 with Young Rival and Mise En Scene (9pm). The show will be full band and will include new material from an album scheduled for release in Summer 2012.

Jenn is one of three Six Shooters to add a Juno nomination to the list of achievements this year. Honeymoon Punch is in fine company in the Adult Alternative category alongside Feist, Jim Cuddy, Ron Sexsmith, and Cuff The Duke. Yay Jenn!

More congrats to Jenn on her multiple East Coast Music Awards nominations! This time around, Jenn has been nominated for four: Album of the Year, Rock Recording of the Year, Song of the Year (“Getcha Good”), and Entertainer of the Year. Also, Honeymoon Punch producer (and co-star of the new video) Daniel Ledwell received two nominations for Audio Professional and Graphic/Media Artist of the Year (which includes the album art for Honeymoon Punch).

THREE JUNO NOMINATIONS

Good LoveliesThere’s no better party in Canada than Junoweek, so we’re sharpening our partying skills in preparation for all the fantastic times ahead in Ottawa this year. We’ve even built a replica Gatineau River in the alley behind our office. We are super stoked about our three Juno Award nominations this year. Jenn Grant’s Honeymoon Punch is up for Best Adult Alternative Album of the Year, competing against Cancon stalwarts Feist, Jim Cuddy, and Ron Sexsmith. Squaring off against each other for Best Roots & Traditional Album of the Year (Group) is the Deep Dark Woods and the Good Lovelies. We think that they should both win, can we make that happen? Those two bands are going to be sitting together at the Gala Awards night (food fight?). I personally think they should call the gala dinner “The Juno Noms”.

OUTLAWS & GUNSLINGERS AT JUNOFEST

The BeautiesFor the good people of Ottawa we also have a killer show in store for you. We’re teaming up with our pals at Starfish Entertainment to present the Outlaws & Gunslingers show at Junofest. It’s goin’ doooown at Mavericks on Friday, March 30. The Good Lovelies kick things off at 9 pm. Then the Beauties take the stage, first offering up some of their own tunes, and then backing a crazy line up of awesome musicians, including Jim Cuddy, Jenn Grant, Luke Doucet, Wayne Petti, Devin Cuddy, Dustin Bental and Kendel Carson, Daniel Romano, and more.
