Interstellar Rodeo returns for its third year in Winnipeg with a KABOOM: today, the festival reveals its 2017 headliners are BECK, BROKEN SOCIAL SCENE and FATHER JOHN MISTY (previously announced). Grammy-winner Beck, a singular force of creativity for decades, has never performed between Ontario and BC. Indie rock progenitors Broken Social Scene have new music out for the first time in seven years, and as previously announced, internationally acclaimed folk/rock provocateur Father John Misty’s appearance is also a debut in the city.
Furthering the theme of firsts, Californian R&B hit-maker Aloe Blacc, Nashville’s gothic blues newcomer Adia Victoria – who blew Interstellar’s Edmonton audience away last year – and surging British country-soul singer Yola Carter round out the impressive list of artists set to make their debuts in Winnipeg this summer. Interstellar Rodeo takes great pride in bringing the world’s best artists to the city, and this year’s lineup delivers in emphatic fashion.

Cult art-rockers Rheostatics will return to Winnipeg for the their first appearance in over a decade. For decades, Rheostatics have mined Canadian mythos on era-defining albums. Renaissance woman Sarah Slean, a recording artist, composer, producer and more, has just released her first new album in five years and is another distinguished Canadian addition to Interstellar Rodeo’s lineup. Interstellar further strengthens its Can-rock bedrock with environmentalist, pacifist and romanticist Danny Michel, another esteemed member of Canada’s songwriter pantheon.
No rodeo is complete without some mega-watt Nashville sparkle, and legend of country music Marty Stuart – who just released an excellent new album called Wild West with his Fabulous Superlatives band – will kick things off on Interstellar’s Friday night bill. Between Six Shooter label-mates Shakey Graves and Whitney Rose, Interstellar Rodeo also has the best Americana music coming from Austin, Texas more than covered. Shakey Graves, the self-proclaimed ‘Texas Gentleman,’ puts on incredibly exciting live shows. Whitney Rose originally from PEI but now based in Austin, has quickly risen in the Americana/country world in recent years.
Interstellar Rodeo is also thrilled to welcome the powerful voices of major breakouts Terra Lightfoot and Leonard Sumner, two of Canada’s brightest new songwriting lights. Lightfoot, from Hamilton, and Sumner, from Winnipeg, represent a new generation of artists that effortlessly fuse rock, blues and country traditions in exciting ways.
Interstellar Rodeo’s imaginative approach to lineup creation once again offers a lineup packed with exceptional performers, both iconic and emerging.
Weekend passes will be on sale to the general public at 9am CT on Wednesday, May 10, 2017. Tickets can be purchased at store.sixshooterrecords.com
