Six Shooter Inc. brings in a new bookkeeper who knows what artists need (because he is one).
Six Shooter Inc. announces Tim MacMillar, founding member of metal band Protest the Hero, has joined the management team as artist bookkeeper. Those familiar with MacMillar through his music might not know that the guitarist has been his band’s administrative backbone for years, and his involvement in the business side of things has been an incredible asset.
MacMillar brings all of his impressive road-tested accounting experience to the company. “I’ve always been very hands on with the business management with Protest The Hero,” says MacMillar. “I want to help others feel comfortable with their finances so they can focus on continuing to make music.”
“It’s an area that I believe is neglected by many musicians, but is such an integral part to having success in music. When the position at Six Shooter became available, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to work in an area I’m passionate about with people I respect in the industry.”
Management company president Helen Britton emphasizes the pride taken in providing the management roster with skilful administrative support: “Striving for excellence in administration, bookkeeping and tax filing is a core value at Six Shooter. I’m thrilled to welcome Tim to our team. No one understands an artist’s needs more than an artist himself. His experience as co-manager of Protest the Hero, in tour management and in administration of Sheet Happens makes him a perfect candidate for this role.”
In MacMillar, Six Shooter Inc. has found not only a savvy and capable bookkeeper, but another unique and impressive human to welcome to the team. MacMillar takes over the position from Kim Temple, who recently moved to the label side to run the newly created Publishing & Licensing Department.
ABOUT TIM MACMILLAR
Tim MacMillar is a member of the band Protest The Hero. For over 15 years, he’s been touring, recording and more recently been co-managing the band as well. In 2008, he started Sheet Happens Publishing with Luke Hoskin and together they’ve been transcribing and releasing sheet music for many bands. He’s currently studying business administration online at University of the People and is working towards his bachelor’s degree.
Six Shooter Records adds a Marketing & Creative Coordinator with a business degree and a cutting-edge artistic vision.
Six Shooter Records officially welcomes Katarina Duma, a second new addition to the Marketing Department. Duma was recently hired for the position of Marketing & Creative Coordinator, and brings both a business degree from Rotman Commerce and extensive overseas experience in applied art, music and film production to the label.
Duma’s impressive range of skills, from project management and database expertise to her keen artistic sensibility, make her a perfect fit for the position. Based in the Toronto office, Duma’s role will encompass administrative and creative spheres, with a focus on developing cohesive visual elements for artists and the label. “With artists and their audiences closer now than ever, being multidimensional is the key to making a lasting impression. My goal at Six Shooter is to continue to develop strong visual identities for our artists,” says Duma.
President Shauna de Cartier reinforces the importance of creating visuals that meet and reflect the standard of excellence established by the music: “More than ever, we need to make sure that the visual presentation of our artists, including photos and videos, is the perfect reflection of their artistic vision. Katarina brings a cutting-edge vision and artistic style to Six Shooter that will elevate and enhance our artists’ ability to cut through a very cluttered marketplace.”
Katarina Duma and Haylen McCarty (welcomed last week) represent a new wave of talent and ingenuity. It’s an exciting time at Six Shooter, and recent internal growth will help the label keep pace with the ever-increasing scope of releases and success of the roster. The new additions to the marketing department and the recently created Publishing & Licensing Division will increase capacity and drive new business. Stay tuned for another staff announcement next week.
ABOUT KATARINA DUMA
Katarina Duma is a graduate of Rotman Commerce at the University of Toronto, who has worked worldwide in the fields of fashion, music and film production. Now back in Toronto after her most recent base in Berlin, Katarina will bring her knowledge of these fields together to add a creative flair to the Six Shooter roster.
Six Shooter Records adds new marketing coordinator destined for Nashville office.
Six Shooter Records is excited to welcome Haylen McCarty to the team, recently hired as a Marketing Coordinator. The job includes working with Thirty Tigers, the US distributor and marketing partner, helping to develop the expanded licensing, co-writing and publishing ventures and increasing the department’s overall capacity. McCarty will become Six Shooter’s representative in the Nashville office. With her insider knowledge of the publishing world, cross-over media experience and excellent communication skills, McCarty is a perfect fit for this new role.
“Haylen blew our minds during the interview process,” says Six Shooter President Shauna de Cartier. “And when asked the question, ‘Where do you see yourself in five years?,’ she answered, ‘In Nashville.’ So we asked her if she would like to accelerate that process. She said, ‘I’ll move there tomorrow.’ She is such a force…I am excited about the energy she will bring to our company both in Toronto and in our office in Tennessee.”
The widening scope of album releases, a dynamic and dominant artist roster and the emphasis on expansion in the USA all bring new challenges, and Six Shooter is strengthening its team to make it all happen. In McCarty, Six Shooter has found an energetic and talented individual who is very familiar with the music business. McCarty will split her time between Toronto and Nashville to start, and be fully relocated to Music City by 2017.
“I’m excited to take on the role of Marketing Coordinator at Six Shooter,” McCarty says, “I can’t wait to take Nashville by storm.”
Meet Haylen McCarty at this year’s AmericanaFest, where Six Shooter Records has a number of artists confirmed to showcase, including Sam Outlaw, Whitney Rose, Amelia Curran and Ryan Boldt (The Deep Dark Woods). #RoadtoAmericanaFest

After an internship in reality television in New York City, McCarty has returned to Toronto as a launch pad to Nashville.
This announcement follows last week’s notice about the label’s new Publishing & Licensing Division. There is more news to come.
Six Shooter Records’ new licensing and publishing division puts more people power behind the songs.
Six Shooter Records is thrilled to announce Kim Temple as the head of Licensing and Publishing, a new position created to invest in and develop the company’s resources and business in these realms. Temple will work to create new opportunities for clients in the world of songwriting collaborations out of the label’s Nashville office, and will pursue licensing opportunities for both the publishing and label rosters with the same artist-first energy and integrity that Six Shooter demonstrates in other realms.
Temple has worked for Six Shooter for nearly two years as an artist bookkeeper, and moves into this new role having already been active and successful in pursuing new opportunities in these realms. “Kim’s creativity and passion for artists makes her a natural in this role. It’s great to see her flourishing in her new domain, and I’m looking forward to walking through the new doors Kim will open for us in the future in North America,” says President Shauna de Cartier.
“It’s an exciting time to be representing Six Shooter’s catalogue,” says Temple. “The label has really broadened its sound as of late, branching out into a variety of genres such as experimental, art pop, traditional country and more. The incredible range of our catalogue opens up a world of possibilities for sync licensing.”
With experience both as an artist and in the sync realm, Temple’s expertise has been honed on both sides of the licensing contract. “There’s nothing more exciting than hearing a song like ‘Spirits’ by The Strumbellas before anyone else has heard it and realizing this is going to be a hit. The impact of that song alone has opened doors for the whole Strumbellas catalogue. It’s a licensing dream come true.”
ABOUT KIM TEMPLE
Kim Temple brings more than 20 years of experience in the business, which includes music publishing, film & TV licensing, and royalty collections. Temple is passionate about expanding Six Shooter’s publishing catalogue, and bringing its artists’ music to a broader audience.
“My goal is to expand Six Shooter’s publishing catalogue and seek placements and sync opportunities that are a good match for our bands and solo artists. I want to create co-writing opportunities in Toronto, Nashville, Austin, New York and Los Angeles, and to do whatever I can to help our artists make a sustainable living so they can continue to create.”
Kim Temple is also a Juno Award nominated drummer.

Whitney Rose announces an extensive North American Summer Tour that goes from Texas Hill Country’s legendary Luckenbach Dancehall to the east coast, including, fittingly, multiple appearances at Hill Country Live outposts (Manhattan, Brooklyn and later DC) along the way. The tour also retraces Rose’s own career path, crossing back into Canada with stops in fabled Prince Edward Island, Rose’s actual birthplace, and Toronto, her musical origin. The way home – Austin is now where Rose resides – takes her through Philadelphia, Nashville and Atlanta. Rose will wrap it up in Bertram, TX, at The Globe Theatre, a recently revitalized Hill Country musical landmark.
Rose will bring some of Austin’s most respected country and rockabilly players on the road – you can take the girl out of Texas, but the girl can take the best of Texas with her. Rose just relocated to Austin in January, and has already settled in quickly. In addition to swiftly assembling and finding a groove with a new band, Rose has established a fruitful weekly residency at The Continental Club with an ever-growing following. Trust the experts – Dwight Yoakam and Raul Malo, for example – Rose’s countrypolitan sound, sense of song and enthralling stage presence make her worthy of considerable praise she’s received thus far. “Whitney Rose writes the kind of country music that will one day firmly place her as one of the greats of the genre” says Malo.
Other recent developments have included securing a booking agent in Davis McLarty and fielding invitations to play iconic Texas dance halls and honky tonks. Above all, Rose has found respect from musical peers she had only dreamed of meeting. New songs have been bloomin’ like bluebonnets, and an exciting project featuring some of Austin’s finest country players is now underway.
“Anyone who knows me knows that I move around a lot- I just don’t feel like myself when I’m stationary for too long. I decided to try my luck stateside. The only question was should I move to Nashville or Austin – I had this feeling that I could really LOVE Austin, so I took my chances, despite never even having visited before. Luckily, I was right. Fast forward a few months and I’m in the studio with Merle Haggard’s guitar player, Johnny Cash’s piano player and Willie Nelson’s bass player…I’m still processing that one. Not to mention my new band, who have helped me to build up a great Thursday residency at the Continental Club, which has become my Austin home base.”
From a small island to a big city, and from a big city to a new country, Rose has had a restless few years. Her first show was only in 2011. Her first record deal was 2012. A gig with The Mavericks put her in the studio with Raul Malo, and resulted in her first New York Times-reviewed album (and worldwide debut), Heartbreaker of the Year, in 2015.
Heartbreaker of the Year put Rose on the map, with three months on the Americana radio chart and astounding reviews and features in Rolling Stone, American Songwriter and more. Rose has toured extensively in the US, including several shows with The Mavericks and fellow country crooner Sam Outlaw.
In 2016, Rose agreed to terms on a new recording contract with indie label Six Shooter Records, giving her the ability to make quality music surrounded by a very solid support system for years to come. Six Shooter’s partnerships with Universal Music in Canada and Thirty Tigers worldwide position Rose to break major ground in the years to come.
American Songwriter said it best when it wrote, “The most exciting part is where she goes next.” Rest assured there will be a Hill Country connection.

The iRodeo App offers all the details about this year’s wine pairings, curated by Ben MacPhee-Sigurdson, the many new and returning food vendors, as well as site information, FAQs, festival policies and more. The App also introduces this year’s beer selections, expertly brewed by Winnipeg’s Half Pints Brewing Co. Look for this icon in Apple or Google Play App stores.
Here’s a sample of what’s in store for app users: MacPhee-Sigurdson’s pairing for Margo Price, a breakout country star who makes her Winnipeg debut on the Interstellar stage.
As a paperless program, the free app is part of Interstellar Rodeo’s efforts to reduce the festival’s environmental footprint. On this front, Interstellar Rodeo announces a new eco initiative – festival crew, artists, and backstage hospitality will be provided with refillable bottles this year in an effort to dramatically reduce the use of plastic water bottles. This is a significant first step in decreasing our overall environmental impact.
Audiences are also encouraged to bring their own refillable bottles, as there will be plenty of free water stations throughout the site.
Also new this year will be AFTER INTERSTELLAR, an official festival after-party happening 10pm-2am on Saturday, August 13 in the newly renovated Food Hall at The Forks Market. There will be wine and food samplings and performances by Duotang and DJ Co-Op. After Interstellar is presented by Winnipeg Wine Cru. For tickets, visit www.interstellarrodeo.com. California country artist Sam Outlaw makes a rare trip to the Atlantic side of the country with upcoming shows down the Eastern Seaboard this June.
Outlaw continues to tour Angeleno, a debut record that has shown impressive legs by supporting multiple headline jaunts across the USA and the UK and Europe since its release in 2015. Angeleno’s stamina comes from its depth and variety, and all the ways Outlaw can make it hurt. It’s easy listening, but hard hitting.
Music critic Jeff Weiss recently profiled Outlaw for LA Weekly in advance of his performance at Stagecoach Festival, the perfect setting for Outlaw’s SoCal country sound that has also earned Nashville’s attention. As Weiss writes, “Angeleno made him a legitimate contender to be the biggest country star L.A. has produced since Dwight Yoakam.” Brooklyn Vegan also included Outlaw in their Stagecoach spotlight.
