ROLLING STONE breaks news of Country & Western Nights Tour today.
See the full post here.

“Angeleno by Sam Outlaw. Just beyond great songwriting. What a record.” – Ryan Adams

‘SoCal Country’ singer Sam Outlaw takes Angeleno back out on the road in February and March for the Country & Western Nights Tour with new Six Shooter Records labelmate Whitney Rose. The tour brings together two exciting breakout artists, both at the vanguard of country music, each with a distinctive sound and style. Outlaw’s country is classic and smooth, made his own with dappled Baja tones; Rose has developed a rich countrypolitan sound with beguiling vintage pop inflections.

The Country & Western Nights Tour starts on Outlaw’s home turf in California and will cover ten states, through country music hotbeds and heartlands of past and present. Fittingly, the tour winds up in Nashville, TN.

Hailed as one of the best country albums of 2015 by Rolling Stone and The Guardian, Angeleno and Outlaw have just made a strong showing in Nashville Scene’s annual and influential Country Music Critics’ Poll, with New Artist and Best Album nods.

Whitney Rose made an impact with Heartbreaker of The Year, produced by Raul Malo of The Mavericks. The New York Times, Rolling Stone and American Songwriter are included on a long list of enthusiastic coverage Rose has received thus far.

SIX SHOOTER RECORDS SIGNS WHITNEY ROSE, VINTAGE COUNTRY POP UP-AND-COMER.

68c1e7d8-ddbc-4583-8659-d609d6bec970

Whitney Rose, purveyor of stylish countrypolitan music for modern ears, starts 2016 by signing with Six Shooter Records.

2015 was a massive year for Whitney Rose. The vintage country pop specialist’s sophomore offering, Heartbreaker of the Year, converted critics’ double takes into palpable buzz with its beguiling blend of then and now.

Heartbreaker of the Year was produced by The Mavericks’ Raul Malo, who also duets on multiple tracks. Rose’s vocals convey both vulnerability and sharpness – a contrast that permeates her music as a whole – to enthralling results. The album’s success has impelled those in the know to include Rose’s name in any conversation about the future faces of Americana and Country music.

Whitney Rose honed the material for Heartbreaker of the Year at Toronto’s Cameron House, an artist incubator, live music destination and record label that has cultivated the early careers of musicians that represent the next generation of roots, rock and folk creativity in Toronto and Canada. Rose has performed at major festivals such as Boots & Hearts, Cavendish Beach, Winnipeg Folk Festival, NXNE and more.

2016 will see Whitney Rose tour across North America. Rose continues to pack Austin’s Continental Club every Thursday at 6:30pm with her ongoing artist residency at one of America’s premiere clubs. A Los Angeles debut gig is confirmed for Thursday, February 18 @ 7pm at Hotel Café.

TOUR DATES:

AUSTIN, TX: Continental Club, Thursdays @ 6:30pm (ONGOING)
LOS ANGELES, CA: Hotel Cafe, February 18 @ 7pm

An exciting announcement about more tour dates is coming soon.

GO UNDER THE BLEACHERS WITH THE WET SECRETS: I CAN LIVE FOREVER EP OUT TODAY.

ICanLiveForever_Packshot copy

“Gritty, shambolic, exuberant, demented rock.” – Vue Weekly

The Wet Secrets, a dance rock six-piece from Edmonton, AB, dress up their scrappy, scathing outlook in impeccably tailored pop attire. Leave eyerolls and apathy to the others: The Wet Secrets’ buoyant brand of irony turns dysfunction into inspiration. Equal parts punk rock and halftime show, The Wet Secrets’ vibe is a fusion of the bass-driven grit of The Stranglers with the lurid surrealism of The B52s.

The first single from the new EP, “I Can Swing A Hammer” is confidence-in-a-can, an epic pep talk that works on and off the field. “I Can Swing A Hammer” is also the perfect rallying cry for a shiny new year, a high gloss time of best intentions and resolve. CBC Music included “I Can Swing A Hammer” in a recent Songs You Need To Hear, calling it a “jangly, catchy, fist-pumping anthem…a motto worthy to repeat every morning.”

Principal vocalist/songwriter Lyle Bell (also of Shout Out Out Out Out) lays swampy basslines through songs that balance misanthropy with empathy, caustic barbs with uplifting mantras. Cravat-wrapped drummer Trevor Anderson (also an award-winning filmmaker whose work has shown at Sundance, SXSW, Berlin and more) embodies the band’s high-art non-conformism. Kim Rackel and Emma Frazier contribute towering, dancing hornstacks on trumpet and trombone, with wildmen Paul Arnusch and Christan Maslyk rounding out the furry-hatted fray on keys, timbales, congas, sax. All six Secrets sing along, creating vocal harmonies galore.

I Can Live Forever covers a lot of ground in only four songs. Over the squirmy intergalactic synths of “If I Was A Camera,” the Secrets shout “Take off all your clothes,” a message that’s more about watching than doing, with a sweet geeky voyeurism. “Final Curtain for a Drama Queen” is a madcap staccato sendoff, a paranoid’s sweaty, horn-heavy fever dream. Final track “Quelle Surprise” is as close to a ballad as The Wet Secrets get, with a slinky 70s vibe, faraway vocals and tinkling off-kilter scales.

I CAN LIVE FOREVER LYRIC VIDEOS:
1. I Can Swing A Hammer
2. If I Was A Camera
3. Final Curtain for a Drama Queen

WHITEHORSE ANNOUNCES NEW EP, “THE NORTHERN SOUTH VOL. 1” WITH NEW VIDEO.

Whitehorse gathers no moss, rolling forward with a brand new EP called The Northern South Vol. 1, a project that takes the band deep into the Chess and Checker electric blues of the 1950s. With a pink Jazzmaster and a ‘new’ 1952 Martin guitar, Whitehorse takes a twelve-bar trip through a collection of chart-toppers that built rock n’ roll one sneakin’ cheatin’ no good man at a time.

The first song out of the gate is “My Babe,” a spiritual-turned-secular standard made famous by Little Walter, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s only harmonica player, and written by bass player and hit-maker Willie Dixon. In Whitehorse fashion, Melissa brings the heat on bass while Luke lays jagged edged riffs over the duo’s signature step-by-step build-up, turning the ‘ain’t gonna take it’ tune into a meal.

The Northern South isn’t simply a history lesson. Whitehorse aims to speak the blues in their own language; the project is about mining the grooves and paying homage to songwriters, great melodies and songs that lend themselves to Whitehorse’s distinctive approach and talents.

See Exclaim premiere the blistering “My Babe” below.

Songs from the new EP will be rolled out one at a time with videos filmed in the studio. The Northern South Vol. 1 will be available digitally and on CD in early 2016.

Videos directed by Light Echo Productions at Revolution Recording in Toronto, ON.

TANYA TAGAQ RELEASES “AORTA,” NEW SONG AND VIDEO, IN ADVANCE OF DECEMBER 1 DEBUT AT MASSEY HALL.

Tanya Tagaq has said that her music and performances begin with the most vital common element of existence: breath. Spiritual and elemental, breath is both a power and a frailty at the heart of human existence.

A new song called “Aorta,” produced by Jesse Zubot, goes deeper into the body, to a place where we can feel the pulse, the rush and the ebb of life itself. The song was created specifically to accompany footage filmed at the Emmanuel Vigeland Museum in Oslo, Norway, a place of beauty and horror, two poles Tanya explores in her own work.

In Tagaq’s words: “This video was made to pay homage to Emmanuel Vigeland, whose frescos fill his own mausoleum. The frescos depict life from conception to death. This penetration of the unsaid philosophies of life in conjunction with the outstanding acoustics of the room has inspired my own work since visiting there in 2002. Hopefully we encapsulate the darkness and the light to his liking.”

See “Aorta” below.
